Michigan doesn't just have an embarrassment of riches, but they have two guys that support each other."

I honestly could see Devin Brown starting for them at QB

McNamara doesn't seem happy with the HC choice.

O/U week 4 he's in the portal

Honestly that would fine. He is a senior and will probably be playing for another team next year for his 5th year. McCarthy has way more potential and it looks Michigan is ready to hand it to him. They look more dynamic with him. But McNamara leaves and McCarthy gets injured…….that’s when the fun begins.

I'm thinking that Harbaugh is more interested in not having McCarthy transfer. I believe that the splitting QB starts was a ploy by Harbaugh to convince McCarthy he had a fair shot at wining the starting job in hopes he won't transfer. I guess it is possible that it could backfire on him.

Keep in mind that McNamara was a red shirt freshman in 2019, so he could return in 2023. Actually with he extra COVID year I think he could be back to 2024 too; however, I'll bet Harbaugh really doesn't want him to. He envisions McCarthy (i.e. his prize 5 star QB recruit) as scUM's QB of the future and I believe that Harbaugh definitely doesn't want him to transfer.

With NIL deals and the transfer portal, good QBs (or QBs that just think they are good*) aren't willing to sit and watch someone else start. That's just what college football has evolved to. Look at all the QB transfers Ohio State has been involved with over the past few years (i. e. Ewers, Miller, Martell, Andrade, Fields, & Hoak).

* think Nate Martell here
