Ohio State This Season:

Differential Scoring Offense

Full Season: 2.145
Since ND Game: 2.378
After Game 2: 2.775

2.775 points for every point given up to anyone else is elite

But...

For the first 3 quarters of games Ohio State DSO is 3.012. It's been 16 years since I've seen DSO that high.

If they do what I think they're going to do the rest of the season, this team may set DSA records in addition to the NCAA records they set.

Probably the most underrated coach on this staff still. I think he’s way more v valuable Thant what the general fanbase realizes (that’s obviously not us) but at this point I hope he’s just lost interest in being a HC. Dude is so intelligent and his mini stories are cool to hear.

just a boss all around. Day likes surrounding himself with other good coaches which is cool.

Looking at NCAA ranks, it's impressive to see the defenses OSU has already played and had success against. Iowa (#6), Rutgers (#7), Notre Dame (#30), & Wisconsin (#33) are all good or great. None of these defenses are the most talented, but they're all disciplined, don't quit, and make the players and staff work to adjust mid game. And it's good that they've had the experience, because it won't get any easier at the end of the season.

The schedule has laid out nicely, ramping up the competition by degrees. Iowa was the best defense we've played by far. Penn State might not be better overall, but they're certainly a step up in the level of athlete Stroud and company will face in the Back 7.

While Iowa was a very brittle pass defense and it was just a matter of time before CJ broke it down, Penn State's pass defense has been uniformly stout against everyone they've played. The highest PE they've allowed was 118.85 (Auburn).

Interesting to me that McCarthy and company only managed a PE of 113.25 while running the ball with enough success that it should have softened the pass defense. I'll have to see if I have that game on my DVR so I can see if I can tell what happened.

Would love to see Stroud eviscerate the Lions pass defense for 3 quarters and then the backups have a 12 minute game killing drive in the 4th.

Having the downfield accuracy of a PSU qb was a large hindrance to what should have been a very easy assignment for JJ. He was asked to do very little and nearly turned it over 3x in the first half, and air mailed most of his downfield throws.

This tweet is from an account who’s big into Iowa Xs and Os. Makes sense that Iowa sold out to stop the run, but problem is, Day, Stroud and the offense found the 1 on 1 mismatches and Stroud has the accuracy to find his weapons.

That cover 0 man didn't work out so well the one time all game that CJ aired it out against that coverage

Yeah the thing that was maddening to me. They were creeping up on the 0 blitz making it obvious what they were doing after the 1st or 2nd time especially on 3rd and short. While Day never adjusted and ran play action while releasing the TE up the seam. Stover should have murdered them till they stopped it then the running game would have opened back up

Gerd had an excellent article about why CJ shouldn't run (and soon, how many people tweet without reading)

This response sums up the fanbase view of CJ:

So I dug up the play:

He's just not that athletic laterally, and he's the most ridiculous passer that OSU will likely ever have, with certainly their greatest WR corps they'll ever enjoy (last year and this year).

Best case, he gets hit 2 yards short, and somehow mildly angles himself to fall forward. Highly unlikely, and those guys only had to run 3 yards to stop him short, while he had to run 12+.

That play is indicative of CJ. It also shows some of his flaws waiting for a big play instead of settling. But this guy is not the monster rushers that OSU has been spoiled with over the past 15 years. He's a flame throwing, not agile in the slightest, #1 overall pick waiting to happen.

Are there a couple of times where he could get 5-8 yds? Maybe. But usually it's a massive mistake. And that play was a perfect example of how little upside there is to him rushing.
