2022 Season: Are You Ready For Some Football?

WIDE RECEIVER (X)
1. Marvin Harrison Jr.
2. Jayden Ballard
3. Kamryn Babb

WIDE RECEIVER (Z)
1. Julian Fleming
2. Emeka Egbuka
3. Kyion Grayes

WIDE RECEIVER (SLOT)
1. Jaxon Smith-Njigba
2. Xavier Johnson
3. Kaleb Brown

While it seems pretty clear-cut who 10 of Ohio State’s 11 offensive stars will be, it’s still in question whether Fleming or Egbuka will join Smith-Njigba and Harrison in the starting lineup at wide receiver. I’m leaning slightly toward Fleming after his Iron Buckeye offseason, but my best guess is that both of them will start their share of games while playing a similar number of snaps in the rotation unless one of them clearly separates himself from the other.

Brian Hartline said this week that Johnson and Ballard are also among six wide receivers who he believes are “really ready to go on the field and play,” so it’s safe to assume they’ll round out the two-deep to start the season. Hartline said Babb would also be in that group if healthy, but he’s expected to miss the start of the season after suffering another knee injury, which keeps him out of the two-deep for at least the time being.

It doesn’t seem as though any of Ohio State’s freshman receivers are likely to be regulars in the rotation immediately, but the most likely candidates among them to push for playing time this season are Brown and Grayes, who have both had their black stripes removed.

My God that was 25minutes of ecstasy watching those highlights. So many unreal plays but the one I think almost made me lose my breath was Henderson's TD run from about midfield. The speed that he just raw dogged em with was breathtakingly beautiful. Oh Saturday please hurry

College football odds: Georgia, Alabama co-favorites in national championship race in Week 3

ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE (+200)

GEORGIA BULLDOGS (+200)

OHIO STATE BUCKEYES (+300)

Ohio State is already lightyears improved defensively under Jim Knowles and the offense hasn't clicked yet. That's probably not a good sign for the rest of the Big Ten. Once Jaxon Smith-Njigba returns to full strength, this passing game for the Buckeyes should be close to unstoppable. Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka are showing out with enhanced reps this season and TreVeyon Henderson is averaging 7.1 yards per carry, better than his freshman average when he finished with 1,248 yards and 15 touchdowns. The Buckeyes host Toledo this weekend before their first Big Ten challenge against West favorite Wisconsin.

Halfway through the shortest regular season in sports.

...

...

...

Sorry, I had to go throw up. Where was I?

Oh yeah...

Looking at the remaining schedule at the mid-point of the season, we have

Iowa
Pedophile Enabling Dirtbags (PED)
NW (they hate that)
IU
Maryland
TTUN

Iowa and the Buckeyes are both off next week, so they are the only team who can't possibly suffer a(nother) loss before they play the Buckeyes.

It is also entirely possible that they WILL BE the only team who doesn't suffer a loss between now and when they play the Bucks.

The only other team that is statistically LIKELY to avoid a loss until they play OSU is the winner of this weekend's TTUN-PED game. Even that team, whichever one it is, is not guaranteed of anything.

If PED wins they still have to make it past Minnesota. Doable, but not certain, especially as it is the game sandwiched between two top-5 opponents. The very definition of a trap game.

If TTUN wins, they will be a heavy favorite in every game in between PED and OSU. Even if they were 90% likely to win each of those games, then they would still have a slightly less than 2 of 3 chance of making it to the OSU game unscathed. Likely, but far from certain. As it is, those opponents for TTUN are MSU, Rutgers, Corn, and Illinois. Oddly enough, the fighting Bielema's are likely to be the toughest test of the bunch. Even so, they're probably closer to a 95% probability of victory in each of those games, making an undefeated run AFTER PED about 81% likely, still not certain.

Having said all that, I still expect TTUN to stroll into Ohio Stadium undefeated and get their doors blown off.

RYAN DAY TALKS OHIO STATE'S BYE WEEK, PREP FOR IOWA AND SAYS “NONE OF OUR GOALS HAVE BEEN MET” ON 97.1 THE FAN

October 17, 2022
  • Day says "as long as you keep things as regular as possible," the Buckeyes can keep their routine through the bye week. Day says it was good for some Buckeyes to get some time off, though.
  • The bye week gives Ohio State a chance to evaluate its personnel, younger guys that could step up down the stretch and its upcoming opponents, Day says.
  • Day says the Buckeyes try to "steal an extra practice" during the bye week. "It allows us to get ahead gameplan-wise."
  • On the medical staff, Day says the program starts every day with an injury report from the athletic training staff. "They do such an unbelievable job of getting guys back on the field." Day says OSU's medical staff is "the best in the country."
  • Day says Ohio State works on third downs, short-yardage and goalline packages on Wednesday, and that it's usually "the most hectic part of the week."
  • On scout team standouts, Day says "it's important for everybody to embrace their role, whether it's a role they envisioned for the year or not." Day says the scout team "takes a lot of pride" in giving the right look for the Buckeye starters.
  • "We've done some good things the first half of the season, but none of our goals have been met." Day says "everything's gonna be harder as we head down the stretch here." Day senses a "high energy" from the Buckeyes heading into the final six games of the regular season.
  • On Iowa: "A very well-coached team." Day says Iowa "knows their offense and defense better than their opponents, and they take a lot of pride in that." Day says Iowa will look to win the game by running the ball and stopping the run.
  • Day says the Hawkeye secondary has things that can throw the Buckeyes off. "When they do mix it up, it makes a big difference."
  • On having a rare day off, Day says he took some family photos, watched football and took his kids and some friends to a haunted house/corn maize: "We had a blast, the kids had a blast and it was good to feel somewhat normal for a weekend."
