Okay, someone please explain this to me like I'm a four-year old....

Why not run it into the line one more time and call a time out with 2-3 seconds left and then the field goal ends it?

What am I missing here....?
If you fumble the snap, you could conceivably throw it away. Seems improbable that you could down it if tackled.

The only logic I can think of is this. We had 2 goal line turnovers and didn't want to risk a 3rd. You take a timeout a bit early in the event there is a bad snap on the field goal attempt.

Not what I would have done, but I bet those are the reasons.
