The hilarious thing to me is that even the OSU haters didn't care nearly enough about TTUN to choose them when I was in middle and high school. The biggest thing I remember were douchebags getting MSU gear because of '98. Glad they wasted their money. Otherwise, they jumped bandwagons from Florida to FSU to Miami, then back to Florida or Boise State. Not a lot of Nebraska or USC fans interestingly enough. Legend has it they all single handedly supplied the homeless with shirts for several years.

The vast majority of OSU haters I now know are UC, BGSU, & Miami (OH) alums who are also Bengals fans. I hate them almost as much as TTUN because their teams blow ass and they only raise their heads out of the sewers when OSU loses to sneer and laugh. Then they immediately disappear to sulk because they know they'll never have any sort of true sports joy. If you lash out and talk shit they cry because they think they're David fighting Goliath.

I also know some big ND fans who hate OSU, but I at least respect them because ND has been in their family for decades. But still annoying at times.

GPA

Oh, and Dude, UC and Miami are not proper nomenclature.

Juggalo and Fredo alums, please.

There is one entire category of TTUN hate that, unless I missed it, hasn't been mentioned yet. Our individual experiences with TTUN fans.

Most of us grew up in Ohio. Many in areas with a large number of Ohio State fans. Being a Buckeye is a bigger part of family than grandma's biscuits and mom's apple pie.

The first experience of TTUN fans for many of us are the kind of jackwagons that choose the rival BECAUSE it's the rival. They WANT to be THAT guy. They choose TTUN because they are contrarian bitchtards whose only contribution to anything is to improve it with their departure. Brady Hoke is exhibit A.

For some of the younger BP members (some of whom are in their 40s by now) the group mentioned above actually overlaps with the second major group of TTUN fans; 1990s bandwagon riders. Many of us that were in the working world for that entire decade, regardless of where it was across North America (I was an applications engineer in the telecom industry for much of that decade, so I was in literally every major city on the continent), ran into a metric butt ton of people who claimed to be TTUN fans, and who seemed to believe that TTUN's ownership of John Cooper somehow reflected on their relationship with us.

Another irksome group of TTUN fans, one that overlaps substantially with both of the above, is the Academic Smack Talk DoucheDonut. These guys seem to think that the accident of geography that landed you at Ohio State makes you somehow intellectually inferior to them. Some of these scUM-bags were among the worst engineers I've ever known; some of them couldn't count to my IQ. My upbringing was such that it truly did not matter how smart I was, going to the state school that was geographically convenient was the best I was ever going to be able to do for myself. Add to that the fact that some of the best engineers I've known were completely self-taught, no formal education at all, and you get a recipe for less than zero respect for academic smack talk. And 80% of it that I've heard has come from TTUN fans. The other 20% is from Notre Dame fans who have never been in South Bend and cultists who flunked out of Ped State, but both of those groups are topics for different threads.

Finally, the group that wraps up all of the other sub-headings of TTUN-fan into a giant, seething vortex of stupid is the sense of entitlement that at once makes them insufferable and also renders them the Dumbest Fan Base In America (DFBIA). They (every one of them that I've met anyway) think that Fielding Yost's many wins, using ringers against teams that they'd just taught to play the game, somehow entitles them to permanent Blue Blood status. They truly believe, until October proves otherwise, that THIS YEAR is the return to glory that they so richly deserve, just for being fans of the Harvard of the Midwest. They believe that cheering for a team that has more wins than any other somehow makes them better... no... supERiOr to other people. While every fan base has those fans who attach too much of their own self esteem to the team's comings and goings (looking at you, Bama man), the appalling lack of self-awareness of TTUN-Man to be so much more arrogant about wins from before his grandfather was born than any other fan is about the win from last Saturday... it is no longer surprising, but it never fails to amaze.

In short: We hate them because they objectively deserve to be hated.

I have found that the Academic Smack Talk DoucheNuts are the second-most insufferable band of asscandles there are…trailing only the ND catholic subway alumni (who could never get near going to ND), but the gap has been closing.

GPA

I have a nephew that is about to graduate HS and has been born and raised on the East Side of Cincinnati. Was a diehard Auburn fan (uncle and aunt graduated there). I come into family and thought that is pretty cool.

Then Urban wins natties at Florida and he is a Florida fan. Then Saban gets the machine rolling and you guessed it. Plus a Duke bball fan.

Now back to the topic of post, he is narrowed down to Bama, UGA, Clemson, Ohio State in that order. His requirements are SEC and good football. He is not my favorite.

Actual back on topic...Until They Quit The Fucking Sport

That's a damn fine GPA worthy post right there folks! We REALLY need to bring those back.

He’s from New Jersey and didn’t care about Ohio State until his [some sort of close connection] Luke Wypler enrolled.
which is completely fine in my book
Some of us are born to the greatness of being a Buckeye, some have it thrust upon them by fate. Either way, we are all Buckeyes.

Reminds me of a Browns game I went to about 10 years ago. They were playing the Saints, and some pea-faces a few rows back were trying to fight the Saints fans right in front of us. The asshole Browns fans got kicked out. They deserved it. The Saints fan was talking to me and almost apologizing for being a Saints fan. Something like, "I grew up in New Orleans", or something. I said, "I don't care if you grew up in Denver and moved to Saskatchewan and then to Miami - you can be a fan of whichever team you want." Then I added, "As long as you aren't a Wolverines fan." He laughed and all was good after that. I think the Browns even won.

I tend to respect a person's fanhood (is that a word?) if he's ALWAYS been a fan of that team, or has a "real" reason to be a fan. If you grew up in Columbus or had parents who went to Ohio State or something... or if YOU went to Ohio State - those are some examples of "real" reasons. There's a million more. But if you grew up in Akron and your favorite NFL team is the Cowboys and your favorite baseball team is the Yankees and maybe you're a fan of Duke basketball... hm... fine, be that guy. It doesn't sound very genuine to me.

I have a brother in law who grew up in Mississippi right outside of Alabama. He said everyone was an Alabama fan growing up, so he's an Auburn fan. Seems like one of those dickhole Michigan fans in the late 80s, early 90s, in Worthington, Ohio. (I remember some of your stupid names, too. Rubbing Desmond's terrible Heisman pose in my face... now where are you??) Anyway, to his credit, he's still an Auburn fan and nothing has stopped that. But when it came to pro sports, he just picked some teams and said, "these are my teams." So he's a Jets fan and a Twins fan.

Anyway, welcome to being a Buckeye fan.

And I've hated ND forever - they think they are superior to all & that they never cheat

They cheat just like everyone else does

But who is Ann Arbor and does she take it hard?

I will find out this Turkey Weekend - I will grab a ttun fan and apply ball gag

How did you become a new Buckeye fan? Regardless and irregardless it is in my IMO that you are welcome here. Just watch out for the elitist pricks that moderate this board. Lastly, get in line when it comes to @Jaxbuck avatar.
