What’s a TE? You mean the skinny offensive lineman we put out there?

Mark it as another year of not utilizing that position enough - can’t wait for the annual off-season story about “getting them involved.”

(being slightly facetious, it’s hard to spread it around when you have an all time group of 3 receivers open 80% of the time…but it’s still funny how we talk about TE’s every year I’ve been alive)
I was thinking about this today too. Damn shame we couldn't use him more. Wasted maybe the best TE we've ever had here he just happened to be here the same time as the best WR corps we've ever had too. I'm gonna go throw up now. :smash:

I get that but in reality, you are only going to pass for a certain amount of yards. It really doesn't matter who it goes to exactly.

We threw for something like 365 yards a game. Throwing more to the TE or more to the slot WR really didn't make any kind of difference in the outcome of games.

Now, if he could play defense....

Ryan Day is going to run the offense anyway, so I'd honestly elevate Hartline to OC strictly because he's too good of a recruiter/WR coach to let him get away.
This might be part of the problem. Day is the HEAD coach of The Ohio State Buckeyes football team. He needs to make sure all aspects of the program are to his liking. He might be too involved in the Offense including game planning and play calling. He might need to step back a bit and evaluate himself as well because his play calling has been dog shit at times this year and in several big games.

Elevating Hartline to an OC because he's a good recruiter/position coach is the same as elevating Kerry Coombs to DC because he's a good recruiter/position coach!

Find someone who can call plays on offense and defense. Not just good recruiters and position coaches, that's why we're in the mess we're in with the defense alone

It seems that whenever the defense shits the bed, the offense predictably shits the bed right with it…or is it vice versa.

How is no one self scouting the Buckeye offense? Or are they, and chucking it out the window at game time? This is gift wrapping series to defensive coordinator.

JFC that’s brutal. How can a play caller have such a lack of self awareness? Where are the nerds to point out these tendencies?

He should certainly evaluate himself, but I want Day involved in the offensive game plan every week. The questionable calls this year have had more to do with not being able to run against certain opponents. Even when they have run against opponents, it's hard to come from a variety of different plays and players. They never had a bread and butter run play and if you can't rely on that to set up PA or to just get short yardage, it doesn't matter what play caller you have. Anything other than figuring out the OL before the start of winter conditioning is rearranging deck chairs on a stalling ship.
