OL needs an identity..not 4 tackles. Unless full Air Raid.

I’m struggling to recall a single time our offensive line showed ability to get to next level in a blocking scheme this year. Or a single instance of doubling off LOS and the releasing to second level.

It feels like our scheme was extremely vanilla in an attempt to simplify assignments for these guys.

Individually it probably was one of our most talented lines. As a unit, I’m not sure it was even top 5 since 2010. Way too soft, zero identity, and almost entirely designed to be elite at pass-blocking. I’d rather be more balanced…..

We did a number or games. Just not when we faced a good defensive front 7.

That said the play calling yesterday was more like Nebraska play calling instead of Purdue or Sparty. Where were the quick passes, jet sweeps and bubble screens?

Imo we were just predictable too. On 2nd and 18 we got stuffed on an inside run that the week prior we did for a gain of 20. We went to the exact same call and they knew it was coming.

We can't win games with the Purdue offense. I know coach Day loves to throw the ball but he's got to rework how we run the ball. Which starts with doing something similar that ttun does with the beat Ohio drill. Repping 9 on 7 for a run drill all year adds up and wow did it make a difference for them in the end.

Trouble is the best running teams without using the QB use multiple Blocking tight ends. We aren’t really a two tight end O and we don’t have monster tight ends. We are a 3 wide offense.

This.

The third wide receiver in the slot is your go to running game in this offense. JSN is always open. Just have to throw it to him.

OL needs a coach that can recruit better and coach better, nothing else on offense is a major concern.

Happy to hear this. Don't like to hate on Stud, but his struggles in recruiting and the inconsistent run blocking make it clear that OSU can find a better coach. Hopefully they land a home run hire.

This wide receiver group…damn. What a group.

Looking forward to JSN and the next set of studs. OLine needs some tinkering. QB is set, RB is set.

Need to perform consistently in big games/when drives matter.

Really interested in how they handle the WR core next year. JSN is the best slot WR in America, but will it be easier for him to move outside and Egbuka replace him? Wouldn't mind either leading the team in catches next year. Then it's up to Fleming or MHJr. to have a breakout year.

If Stud is indeed on his way out and Wilson really is interested in committing suicide and taking the Akron job the name that comes to mind is Justin Frye at UCLA.

Not sure if Day would poach from his mentor but he has connections to Frye from their days at BC.

Frye is OL/OC at UCLA.
Highly regarded and from the Midwest.

I really hope we keep JSN in the slot (bring some stability to the group) and let Fleming and Harrison step into the outside roles. Still have Egbuka too to rotate in.

Either way the QB/WR/RB rotation is set and the OL is mostly set too with Parris, Luke, Matt and Dawand Back. Doubt NPF returns but imagine if he did?

We will not have the high end talent at TE though so it'll be interesting if we go away from the 2 TE sets.

What’s a TE? You mean the skinny offensive lineman we put out there?

Mark it as another year of not utilizing that position enough - can’t wait for the annual off-season story about “getting them involved.”

(being slightly facetious, it’s hard to spread it around when you have an all time group of 3 receivers open 80% of the time…but it’s still funny how we talk about TE’s every year I’ve been alive)

As far as JSN, he’s an absolute weapon in the slot but I feel like he’ll take a similar path as Olave (and even Wilson after his brief move inside). For the betterment of his career, I’m sure he’ll want to showcase some outside ability/dowfield threat.

Hopefully Flemming or Harrison Jr. can manage the outside but maybe someone else replaces JSN in the slot too (Egbuka). Either way, no lack of talent/options here.

Fully agreed.... at this point just put another WR on the field instead. We recruit so much better at that position anyway.

Putting a TE on the field in place of a WR is criminal next year.
