2021 CFB Playoff Discussion

Just out of curiosity, if:

- Michigan wins
- Georgia wins big
- Cincy loses
- Oklahoma state loses
- Oregon loses

There's obviously only two teams with guaranteed spots, being Georgia and scUM

Who gets the last two spots between Baylor, Notre Dame, Bama, and us?

Id agree that this exact scenario is fairly unlikely but I think people are too easily dismissing the idea that we could fall backwards into the playoffs.

Again, I don't think we'd get picked, but I am curious as to how you guys think it would play out given the above stated circumstances. Frankly, I'm not even remotely sure how the committee would handle it.

It's been discussed.

I'd say now that ND has a coach...ND and Bama, unless Bama gets skull fucked. OSU is 3rd. Baylor is always 4th however you rank the other 3.

A proper Rodgering of Bama by UGA + the rest of that scenario could very well have OSU in the CFP as #4, which leads us to being double fisted dry by a much more talented version of the team that only single fisted us last week.

Net/net is that OSU '21 is a deeply flawed team that lacks the coaching and physical toughness to win anything. Best to give them the Old yeller treatment and get back to it in '22.

Pretty much agreed on everything. I would guess OSU and Bama maybe but its just that, guesswork.

Personally, I'm not in the camp of not wanting to see us in the playoff, whether we have a chance or not. Id still be much more excited for a crack at the Dawgs than some consolation game, but thats probably just me. I'm always in the market for extra Buckeye games that matter.

You arent wrong and this team is maddening. However, I don't know how many more times I'll get to watch Buckeye football, so I'm all in on seeing them against whomever they get.

What do you mean old yeller treatment?
More entitled buckeye fans, either we go to the playoffs or take it out back and shoot it?
This season isn’t fucking over. There is one more game to play, and I’m gonna be watching that game and cheering like hell for whichever buckeyes shows up to play. And I hope like hell the players are excited to be there and the coaches have them prepared. And I’m going to bitch during that game is they play like shit again, but I’m not going to give up on them.
Yeah it sucks to not go to the playoffs. Yeah it sucks to loose to ttun. That shits gonna happen. We aren’t going to make the playoffs every year. This is buckeye nation and we don’t give up on our team.

Playoffs mean dick.

We lost The Game. Season fucking over.

That's what I mean if I'm not being clear enough.

If OSU were to get in I actually think they’d be a terrifying matchup on a fast track in a dome. Our passing game is elite.

The team absolutely has a chance if they get early an early lead.

BTw I was talking to a Begas sharp who said if tOSU and Michigan were playing this weekend, even after the ass beating we got last week, OSU would be a 8-9 pt favorite based on game being indoors. TIFWIW.

We are the same team that made a decent MSU team look like a HS squad and scored points at Will on Purdue.

We are front runners but really damn good front runners. If we jumped early on UGA, Michigan, Bama, etc…..I have no doubt we could beat any of them. Just my opinion.

Keep in mind one factor that could come into play beyond Kelly leaving ND…

OSU and ND have 1 common opponent on season, and each got Purdue at home. ND was in a competitive game nearly entire game.

OSU won by 28 and really could’ve named the score.

On top of that, ND best win on season is against Wisky. Wisky was just beaten by Minny who we obviously beat. ND schedule was really average/bad on season.

If Cincy and Okie State were to lose, I really think there’s a shot…..add in Bama getting destroyed (who should’ve lost to a bad Auburn team last week if Bigsby gets down in bounds) and it’s just more potential fuel for our case.

Im just hoping for some chaos tomorrow.

I think Oregon losing tonight was a bet positive although the SOS boost would’ve been nice. That said, the argument for Ducks over Bucks in event of chaos would’ve been tough to overcome even though Oregon has been playing season with season ending injuries contributing to mid/late season collapse…..and Committee for first time I can recall have said they are taking injuries into consideration this year.

The coaching staff did what the majority of fans wanted ..they were going for the NC and were trying to peak in January. Our coaches had no fear of scUM, which is understandable scUM never proved they were a threat to our success like Clemson and Alabama. This time scUM was all in to beat OSU. We were all in for the NC. As an old timer I’m all in to beat scUM anything after is gravy. No gravy this year it was just a perfect storm ..

Here's what I think

Georgia, UC, OKST, dUMb alll win - #1 Georgia, #2 dUMb,. #3 UC, #4 OKSt
Alabama, UC, OKST, dUMb win - #1 Alabama, #2 Georgia, #3 dUMb, #4 UC
Georgia, OKSt, dUMb win, UC loses - #1 Georgia, #2 dUMb, #3 OKST, #4 ND
Alabama, OKSt, dUMb win, UC loses - #1 Alabama, #2 Georgia, #3 dUMb, #4 OKST
Georgia, UC, dUMB win, OKST loses - #1 Georgia, #2 dUMb, #3 UC, #4 ND
Alabama, UC, dUMB win, OKST loses - #1 Alabama, #2 Georgia, #3 dUMb, #4 UC
Georgia, UC, OKST win, dUMb loses - #1 Georgia, #2 UC, #3 OKST, #4 ND
Alabama UC, OKST win, dUMb loses - #1 Alabama, #2 Georgia, #3 UC, #4 OKST
Georgia and OKST win, UC and dUMb lose- #1 Georgia, #2 OKST, #3 ND, #4 Alabama
Alabama and OKST win, UC and dUMb lose- #1 Alabama, #2 Georgia, #3 OKST, #4 ND
Georgia and UC win, dUMb and OKST lose - #1 Georgia, #2 UC, #3 ND, #4 Baylor
Alabama and UC win, dUMb and OKST lose - #1 Alabama, #2 Georgia, #3 UC, #4 Baylor
Georgia and dUMb win, UC and OKST lose - #1 Georgia, #2 dUMb, #3 ND, #4 Baylor
Alabama and dUMb win, UC and OKST lose - #1 Alabama, #2 Georgia, #3 dUMb, #4 Baylor
Georgia wins, UC, dUMb, OKSt all lose - #1 Georgia, #2 ND, #3 Alabama, #4 Baylor
Alabama wins, UC, dUMb, OKSt all lose - #1 Alabama, #2 Georgia, #3 ND, #4 Baylor

Basically, if dUMb, UC or OKST loses, they are out.
If Alabama wins, then ESPN gets their dream scenario of 2 SEC teams in.
Even if Alabama loses, if dUMb loses too then it's a pick between the two. We all know how that will go.

No scenario I can see gets OSU in.

I think there are scenarios where OSU can get in albeit very low chance. Basically it comes down to not feeling like they would move Baylor over OSU. I don't think the CFP is going to do that for Baylor or Iowa if they win today.

We would need Ok State and Bama to lose at a minimum. That creates a beauty pageant between ND and OSU for the 4th spot. UC losing would be funny in that the CFP would then have to justify moving a 1 loss ND past the 1 loss UC team that beat them head to head.

So, all in all I'm focused on OkState and Bama if I think it's a good thing to see OSU in the CFP.

I can't see them moving a 10-2 OSU, who didn't even appear in their championship game over an 11-2 conference champ. Even if it is the Big 12. I just don't see it.

Maybe they don't but they have already put a 2 loss OSU ahead of 2 loss Baylor going into the weekend. Baylor would be a conf champ yes, but it's just a rematch win against a team they already lost to so you can diminish it if you want to.

I think the tv draw would be the factor here, very similar to 2014 when they took the excuse that was given to them (The CFP) to pass over a B12 team for OSU.

They have bills to pay with this 4 team tournament. It's not really about rewarding anything like a conference championship.
