2021 CFB Playoff Discussion

maybe the committee surprises us and actually rewards OSU for beating 3 highly ranked teams in consecutive weeks and they bi-pass Bama in the rankings going into CCG week and they have OSU at #2 after their beatdown wins of Purdon't, MSU, ttun?

Nah, what am I thinking? SEC bro.

Considering they didn't punish Bama for escaping a bad LSU team at home, I doubt anyone is jumping them unless they lose. No matter how impressive another teams wins may be.

Agreed. ESPN will try their best for another all SEC NC, and they're praying for Bama to win the SECCG to ensure that

Yes, I wasn't even thinking about that, but If they put a 2 loss Bama in, they'd more than likely have them #3, to avoid a semi final matchup rematch with UGA.

Which means they'd only drop 1 spot for taking their 2nd loss and remain ahead of 1 loss teams. A all time joke it would be.

Georgia would get a layup with whoever the #4 team is (Cincinnati, Oregon or Notre Dame? lol) and theyd have a decent chance of Bama beating whoever #2 would be. For their jerk off fest all SEC title game.

 are they really going to try to start talking up that Oklahoma State is the "more impressive" OSU?

7 point win over Missouri State
5 point win over Tulsa
1 point win over Boise State

Lost to 6-4 Iowa State.

Come on ESPN.

Seems the committee has made very clear what the final rankings will be:
1. Sec champ
2/3. 1 loss pac champ/ b1g champ
4. 1 loss Georgia or 2 loss Bama
5. Undefeated Cincinnati
6. 1 loss Big12 champ will jump:
7. 1 loss domers

Add another loss to any champ and they go to the end of the line.

maybe they slot Cincinnati over sec runner up to avoid immediate rematch if it’s a double digit clear cut win.

Sorry, but if Alabama were to lose to Georgia in the SEC title game, and Ohio State wins out as does Cincinnati or Oregon, then there will be a repeat Georgia/Alabama game in a CFP semi-final game. If Ohio State, Cincinnati, and Oregon all win out and Alabama loses to Georgia in the SEC title game, Alabama is out...

Dude with the horse teeth just came out and said they look at the stats. "We watch the games certainly but we really pay attention to the statistics each team provides in those games."

This is what happens when you put people in charge of football who haven't played the sport or understand it other than the stats put up by each.

I could live with it in baseball but stats are so contextual in football.

You really have to use them in conjunction of knowing what went on in the game(s).

uh did he say anything about the context of the team being played or do they literally just look at the stats and say “good”? Lol that would be my question for the guy.

of course a team is going to look great by comparison in the stat sheet the week they play like a New Mexico State

No context. He was answering the questions about their Head to Head fuck up

Then, of course, when a teams stats suck against a bad team they hammer them.....right?

I mean, for instance, like when tsun put up 275 total yards against Rutgers. Even though they managed a massive 7 point victory, surely that didn't impress the committee, did it?

The problem with going with "stats" when justifying Oregon over OSU is that they don't have better stats on either offense or defense.

Oregon D YPG - 58th
OSU D YPG - 56th
Oregon D PPG - 42nd
OSU D PPG - 23rd

Oregon O YPG - 32nd
OSU O YPG - 1st
Oregon O PPG - 21st
OSU O PPG - 1st

Every SOS and advanced metric rankings them higher. In the end it doesn't matter at this point but it's annoying that the committee constantly contradicts themselves when answering questions and rece davis never pushes them on it.
