2021 CFB Playoff Discussion

I have to say, I do believe that Oklahoma is undervalued right now.
They're just appeasing the UC fanbase and the nations underdog fetish for now. MSU and TTUN will both have two losses soon and that moves OU up two places to 6 minimum. If they get by Okie State they'll be 4-5. Then when Bama loses it's second game it'll be UGA, OSU, ORE-OU-UC in some unknown order at the end.

OSU and MSU fully control their own destinies, UM does not. It’s really that simple.

The hand wringing over who is #5, #6, or #7 after the first weekend of November is exactly what ESPN wants from this dog and pony show. This started with the BCS rankings in 1998 and ESPN saw the outrage it created in October and found a better way to monetize it with an exclusive selection show.

I honestly don’t understand why people watch this stuff in October or early November. None of it is relevant until the weekend after Thanksgiving. Could see this coming from the jump in 2014 when the committee told us Mississippi St, Florida St, Ole Miss, and Auburn were the four best teams in the country. Different year, same story.

Toss in a loss by UC and Okie each and guess who climbs to #4 (#3 if they don't want an Oregon-OSU rematch in the first round). The Domers? Probably not since UC beat them and they need to be undefeated to even be considered for the CFP. Funny how that works.

I enjoy letting other people watch it and then watching their hand wringing.

I believe coaches when they say it’s damn hard to win just about any game. I enjoy watching games from the chess match perspective of the coaches and try to imagine what it’s like to just try and walk off the field with a W. As a fan I LOVE to see the young talent emerge and even more when it’s a veteran that’s earned it and it starts finally paying off. Seeing the players blossom is truly my favorite part because I’ve usually tracked their progress as recruits and I know they work their ass off. Seeing it all pay off for them is priceless.

The goal is always to bitch slap that TTUN and then win a CCG. If we make the playoffs it allows the team to play out of conference opponents they usually don’t play. Sometimes it’s a rematch with an old nemesis like last year when we put a boot in Dabo’s ass and it’s very satisfying. When you get a chance to play for a Natty you cherish it and hope for the best. I enjoy each stage without worrying about the later ones that may or may not happen.

I didn't hear the explanation but guessing bc scUM lost to a better team and MSU lost by a larger margin and were never really in it. U would think the same argument could be made in the OSU/Oregon situation but maybe not with the way OSU struggled to close vs. PSU and Nebraska the last 2 weeks.
Oregon lost to a 3-6 Stanford team that was just waxed by Utah 52-7. If the head-to-head is the deciding factor between Oregon and tOSU it’s ridiculous that’s is also not the deciding factor in TTUN-Sparty.

It really does seem like they think they need to give folks something to be riled up about every week.

And let’s sneak Arkansas in there at #25 since they play Bama soon, so that could look like another quality win. The committee is impressed with their 3 non-conference wins over Rice, Georgia Southern, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The committee believes that their wins over ranked aTm and Mississippi St, and their 3 losses to Auburn (by 15), Ole Miss (by 1), and UGA (37-0) are better than Penn State’s resume.

Penn State lost at tOSU (by 9), Illinois (in 9 OT), and at Iowa (by 3 after Clifford got hurt), and they have wins over ranked Wisconsin (on the road) and over a ranked Auburn team, but that isn’t as good as what Arkansas has done.

So a team with 1 win over a ranked team and 3 cupcakes is ahead of a team with 2 wins over ranked teams and 2 cupcakes (Nova and Ball State). BS
