Oh, that was most definitely an Illinois thing, too. Back in the 2008-12 time-frame, when their delusion was at its peak, every 2 and 3* kid the Zooker landed from FL was really a 4 or 5* anywhere else according to most of their fanbase, and thaKid, in particular.

One that stands out was 2* RB Dami Ayoola (I remember that name because theKid was so over-the-top about him). theKid labeled him an "immediate impact" RB that would "make Illini fans forget Rashard Mendenhall." How'd that go, you ask?

Rashard who?

Donovan Peoples-Jones still sitting around - Michigan took the #12 ranked player in the country and #1 WR and made him a 4th round (or worse) pick.

But it’s the online classes.

Having FOUR highly rated incoming freshman WRs, some of whom you need to play the first year, and giving them to a GA for coaching is possibly Harbaugh’s stupidest choice at Michigan. That was so clearly not going to work, and it really stunted all of their growth.

Amazingly, after doing such an awesome job with those guys, we’re having a tough time landing any other elite WRs.

Recruiting and coaching are two sides of the same coin.

Nah he's a prime example of why relegating a freaky 5 star athlete to third banana so you can force the ball to a two star basketball recruit is a bad idea.

It absolutely boggles my mind that Harbaugh had two OLine coaches and no dedicated coach for the WR’s. Just shows how disorganized this program is at time.

It’s hard to ignore articles trashing Harbaugh’s recruiting approach and war rooms when you think about what was mentioned above.

Something is missing with Harbaugh.

I think the ship has sailed on the offensive guru and guy who can take talent to the next level read on Harbaugh.

He was that guy. Hasnt been for a while.

DPJ only had a dedicated WR coach for 1/3 seasons, and it showed.

If anyone truly needs another year in college, it is Donovan.

The top 3 WR's in the 2017 class were:

DPJ

Tee Higgins

Jerry Jeudy

One of these things is not like the others.

DPJ never had a half decent QB.

Yes. It seems like there were various factors that aligned in non-helpful ways for DPJ’s development - bad pass protecting OL during his first two seasons, change in offensive philosophy in his 3rd season, QB who for whatever reason didn’t like to throw the ball downfield his last 2 seasons.

DPJ was a solid college football player and there’s nothing wrong with that - the higher you go the more shake and better hands you need at WR - he’s ending up exactly where he should be in the draft...
peoples-jones and hill will be drafted in the middle rounds. That’s a very good college player to be picked there.
The #12 player in the country and #1 WR should be drafted on the third day. Hey recruits, come to Michigan!

hope I am not overrating McCaffrey ... I think he is going be our best QB since Henne

I think he needed one more season. He seem to drop passes he should have caught. When an OSU DB hit him hard in the middle of the field in the 3rd QTR he seem to become super cautious running routes. I think he would have made a good 2nd wide out this year with Dylan coming in with a bigger arm.

Agreed. He ran one route in high school. His freshman year they were just trying to get him lined up. He was an athlete trying to be a wr. In the nfl they love athletes, but if he doesn't get better running routes, he won't be around long.
If only there was something college coaches could do about that in three years.

I really like the progression of - his coaching sucked, his OL sucked, his QB sucked, the scheme sucked and changed, he sucked and couldn’t run routes... he just needed one more year.

If the University of Chicago is "the place where fun goes to die" then the University of Michigan is "the place where NFL potential goes to die."

Remember when “just grab whoever you can from Florida because being from that state makes them better” was Purdue’s go to strategy? Or was it Illinois? I honestly forget, but definitely company Michigan wants to be in to achieve similar on-field success.
In his first full recruiting class at Michigan (2009), RichRod signed 21 recruits, 7 from Florida:

Brendan GibbonsPK6' 0"202 lbs***.8399
Adrian WittyCB5' 9"175 lbs**.7889
Recruiting a bunch of midgets from Florida didn't work out too well.

Hilarious that the heaviest player on the list was the place kicker at 202 pounds.

FYI, Vincent Smith was the kid who nearly got decapitated by Jadeveon Clowney.

If Michigan held its football players to Stanford's or Northwestern's admission standards, they'd have 5 or 6 players on the team. Probably all walk-ons.

And even those schools hold their football players to nowhere near the admissions standards of the regular student body. The Northwestern QB during their unionization battle flat out stated that the only reason he could get into NU was due to being a football player. When Josh Rosen made some comments about football player admission standards, there was a list floating around of average football player SAT scores at the PAC schools. Stanford was the highest at somewhere in the 1050 range, which placed their average football player SAT score at just about 300 points lower than that of an average freshman.......at Ohio State. This notion that tsun is somehow hindered in recruiting by admission standards is a complete and utter myth and just further evidence of tdfbia's inherent ability to make excuses.

Hello Ja'Den McBurrows

Nice little circular firing squad going on between the "we stole this guy from OSU and Bama" and those who aren't stupid.
I enjoy how they think everyone with a less than optimistic to negative take (ie realistic) is the same person using multiple user names.

Whining about recruting....join date today...I assume this is Maizen #84

One of the best things about BP is the fact that the recruiting forums are moderated strictly to prevent dipshittery being spewed about high schoolers, whether implicitly or explicitly.

Regardless of whether those cunty fuckbats are correct regarding the criticism of TTUN’s recruiting strategy, it doesn’t have to come off making the 17 year olds looking bad.

However, that being said....they all can stay fucked.
