2020 Team Discussion Thread

Rumor is Day told the team they’ll know one way or the other about this fall by Friday.

Either they’ll get a fall season in starting mid/early October or they will in fact delay to January, in which case they’ll proceed with essentially “new roster” since many players will opt out.

If they get a fall season everyone still plans on playing. If it’s a January start, likely 5 guys to bail on season and focus on draft.

My money is on no season. They've shown no inclination to play in October and the idea of playing in January is a joke. Shame on everyone involved.

I agree in sense if they cancel fall, just cancel the year. No need to have a pointless January season just to check a box....they’d look kinda pathetic IMO. Starting a season as the rest of the country is wrapping up and having National Title Game. Embarrassing look.

The problem with a decision to play in the fall is that it doesn't mean they will play in the fall. It just means they will move forward with that intent and see what happens.

My concern with that is how much will it take for the same folks who pulled the plug once to panic and do it again. These would be the same folks who would have reacted to pressure twice in making their decision.

Yes. You have to hold your breath with this bunch all year.

Not just that the big ten players test negative but also the big conferences. If theres 10 players at Missouri who test positive that could get the big ten to pull the plug anyways.

At this point I'll be happy with football still but if we don't get football that's what I expect.

I would love to see the players declare they wont play a winter/spring season just to stick it to these presidents and Warren though.

Don't they get a lot of extra development time for the new roster with a spring season?

Only positive I can think of.

I’d prefer they just use it as practice time rather than look like a second tier conference that just shit all over it’s players who wanted to play personally.

I think as a conference they are going to think they look smart and caring, but it’s going to come across as cheap and very regrettable. If they aren’t playing with the rest of the country, just allow teams to practice and reboot next fall at appropriate time. A watered down 2020 season that starts in January with all pro prospects sitting out is just poor form. Either step up to plate and join rest of country, or flat out postpone until next fall IMO.

At this point in time and with all the other groups playing at the HS, College, and Pro level, it’s hard not to subscribe to the theory that there’s other issues at play here besides COVID.

Yeah, a player whose season had been cancelled in California passed away at age 20 yesterday.

There’s a very easy case to be made that had the player been under consistent testing and in football shape, he’d be alive right now. There’s a very strong case for football actually saving lives by keeping the athletes monitored and under team guidelines. And those that test positive (who otherwise wouldn’t even know they’re positive) are quarantined for 2 weeks. Think about how much additional spread was prevented by testing all athletes upon return to campus. It’s extraordinary. Rutgers had over 30 players test positive......30 people at that time away from program who didn’t know they were positive. All were quarantined which thus minimized spread in their respective communities. Football is better in terms of minimizing spread bc it actively forces consistent testing measures and keeps people accountable.

I think the player you're referring to was from California University of Pennsylvania....a D2 school that probably didn't have funds for consistent testing, or the push to keep kids in a bubble.

He was also 355 pounds. Being allowed to play football wouldn't have changed the fact he was more at-risk of losing his life as a result of COVID.

Family has said due to offseason and cancellation of season, his weight had ballooned. I guess the point being, had he been in football shape, it would not have hurt his chances at all......not saying he would’ve lived for sure either. RIP.
