2020 Team Discussion Thread

“This fall for us, each guy is going to have an individualized plan on how we’re going to improve them,” Day said last week. “We have such a range of different guys in the program. There are some guys who are in their last year and looking to play in the spring and then go into the NFL Draft. There are other guys who just got into the program and really haven’t had a spring ball and need development.

The Game
Ohio State and Michigan have played every year since 1918. But this season, that streak will be snapped. There won’t be a season finale this fall featuring the best rivalry in sport. No montages on TV showing the fights, moments, wins and history before the game kicks off. No banner touches. No dotting of the “I.” The Saturday after Thanksgiving won’t be the same without Ohio State facing Michigan. It’s been 20 years since Michigan beat Ohio State in Columbus. This fall, the Buckeyes won’t have a chance to extend that home winning streak over its rival. And the best rivalry in college football will be put on pause for the first time in more than 100 years.

How can you not miss beating scUM again? The "pisser" will be that next year we'll probably go to the existing 2021 schedule and we lose a "home game win over scUM" this year.

I live about 120 mi. north of campus so I won't be able to confirm this, but it's my guess if you walk by Woody's statue tonight and look him in the eye, you might just see a tear.

If everything stands as-is I wonder if we'll see an expanded Rose Bowl of most or all of the Big 10 and Pac 12 schools in the spring. 6 to 12 'bowl' games. I bet they do something. And aside from the Rose Bowl itself, they can play the games at the universities.

The playoffs are a farce anyhow. It was made very clear in January. Clemson vs 3 sec schools is what they want. I could go a season wanting to vomit every time someone mentions the playoffs.

As to who plays, I think the NFL will delay the draft until afterwards all conferences have played which will increase the likelihood that few people opt out. Plus the NCAA announced that the season will not count against their eligibility, so they could sell playing in in January to the recruits. Yeah, Bama and Clemson will let you visit a game. Ohio State will have you on the sideline every week and you can even play (sparsely of course with very limited training). Frankly, that loophole should allow them to come in as soon as they take their last HS final for a preseason camp. Only question is the 85 man roster, but that is going to need to be looked at anywhere, where it bumps to 105 next year and drops slowly over the next 4-5 years.

Just trying to stay positive here.

What if the sec and ACC play, how many scholarships do they get? They might need 40 recruits to hit 105.

I expect most of the bowl games to be cancelled. All of the social activities, not to mention fans travelling to the destinations, will be impacted by covid restrictions. That will also affect sponsor dollars.

As for playing in January, Spring, whenever I'll believe it when I see it. They aren't going to play two seasons in 2021. I wouldn't care if they moved the draft (big if) because if I'm Fields I'm not playing college games in February/March. The whole Spring season has several issues, and as for January...who wants to go play the Gophers in Minneapolis in January? Sounds like fun.

They could play the whole season indoors at Ford Field in Detroit and/or Lucas Oil in Indy. It’s only 7 games each week, and starting in the week before the Super Bowl on Jan. 30th, they could play 9 games, have 2 bye weeks during the season, and have a week off before the B1G Championship Game on April 24th, for potential rescheduling/postponements. They could play 7 games all at Lucas Oil between Friday and Sunday each week in case the state up north has an issue about hosting games, and televise them all on Fox and BTN.

Goodell can delay the NFL Draft until June 2nd, which I believe he’ll do if any of the Power 5 are playing in April.

I think they’ll propose something like that, but they shouldn’t lock it down until they see what happens to the SEC and ACC in Sept/October.

Just not happy with how damn silent our administration is regarding all of this.

We were told no by the big ten and our top brass hasn't done a damn thing ever since.

We are set for a $130m hit due to no football and they seem okay with that.

Sickens me how we are doing nothing as the flag ship of our conference. The fact that Randy Wade has done more than Gene should make buckeye fans upset at how quiet our leadership is.
