2020-2021 Ohio State Men's Basketball (Official Thread)

Y'all know I got a lot of love for Musa Jallow, so I was glad last night to see him out there down the stretch when OSU needed stops. I was disappointed that he wasn't put in the game sooner when OSU was letting PSU score on seemingly every possession and guys were in foul trouble and trying to avoid fouling out. I think using your bench defenders (I'm thinking of Gene also) earlier was the optimal move to change the momentum. Glad PSU ended up missing shots, but the Buckeyes were lucky that they did. Their substitution pattern makes me think maybe they are hoping to use Musa to replace Kyle Young next year (if possible).

I worry about this team being able to get critical stops when they are hesitant to put their best defenders out there. PSU got a lot of open looks, and there have repeatedly been some terrible miscommunications and breakdowns defensively leaving guys wide-open. This team is also way too careless with the ball at times. Clownish ballhandling and poor defense is exactly how you get upset in the first round of the tournament. CJ and especially EJ need to work more on their passing in the halfcourt setting.

EJ in the double or trap, is really bad. Guys picking up their dribble and getting stuck is really bad. Once either of those things happen guys have to move and help. Yesterday I don't remember that happening even once. That's a definite killer and you'll take more losses than wins that way. Where are the backdoor cuts? Where's the flash across the lane to give the guy with the ball an option to pass? I know basketball is a lot different now but damn I learned these things in Junior High. Don't stand still, move your ass and be open!

It is easy to compare past OSU season stats year by year in Kenpom, which now goes all the way back through the 1997 season. In this timespan, at 76.5%, this current OSU team has the best FT shooting percentage of all of the OSU teams. Last year's team hit 75% and that is the second-best mark.
Would be even better had CJ not gotten injured. Still, excellent marks

Just curious, do any of the schlep-rock wowsie wowsie woo woo, downer Debbie, Type B-Ball fans(?) on here actually enjoy watching the Buckeye hoopsters play?

Life is too damn short - enjoy the game and quit stressing over stuff...
As much as they stress me out, this group of guys is fun as hell to watch.
