2019 tOSU Offense (Official Thread)

My only critique/concern with Day, is less emphasis on the power run game. When Meyer came in, he flatlt stated he wanted to be a "power-spread" team. And that exactly what we were as we sledgehammered Carlos Hyde and Zeke Elliott into the line.

Last year, and in fairness Dobbins/Weber are not Zeke or Hyde, our power run game suffered a lot. Again, part of that is the make-up of our RB's, but I also think our style of play contributed to it.

I hope power-run remains a staple of this team, and we don't evolve into a finesse, perimeter oriented run team.
Those teams had a ton of NFL players on the OL though and had Zeke/Hyde.

Have to use what you have.

And on that note, it should not be impossible as primarily a shotgun spread team (I've seen other teams do it), to get into an old school QB under center formation once in a blue moon to convert short yardage situations.

WITH THREE OF LAST YEAR'S TOP FOUR RECEIVERS LOST TO GRADUATION, OHIO STATE MUST RELOAD ON THE OUTSIDE

102230_h.jpg

At football factories like Ohio State, there's no patience for rebuilding.

The Buckeyes are expected to reload just like the small handful of college football's true blood programs.

Boasting rosters dotted with five and four-star talent, this often looks easier than it should for programs like Ohio State, Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma and Georgia.

For the Buckeyes, in Ryan Day's first season at the helm, reloading will be no small task specific to a passing attack that was easily the most prolific in school history.

Gone is record-smashing quarterback Dwayne Haskins – and that reality dominates the headlines considering the position's overall importance and the Nintendo numbers he put up last fall – but also gone are three of last year's top four pass catchers.

One of which, Parris Campbell, exits Columbus having put up just the fifth 1,000-yard receiving season in school history while also piling up the program's fourth-most touchdown grabs in a single-season.

Sure, some of that action came via jet sweeps but there's no reason to believe Day won't continue using such plays to stretch a defense if he can find a guy with the appropriate skill set to make it work.

Terry McLaurin also exhausted his eligibility by turning in a fine senior season with 35 grabs for 701 yards and 11 touchdowns, good for sixth-most in a single-season in OSU lore.

Finally, Johnnie Dixon wrapped up an injury-plagued career posting 42 receptions for 669 yards and eight touchdowns in an inspiring swan song.

Beyond the sturdy numbers the trio posted last fall, their leadership on the field and in the locker room might be hard to measure but will be even harder to replace.

Honestly I think it was more an issue with the OL talent and lack of adjustment with running plays. We'll see how it plays out this year and going forward, but at times against TCU, Day was more than happy to pound the ball 6-7 plays in a row as long as he got the right look.

It'll be interesting to see how much the core running game changes, if at all with someone like Fields coming in. Have a feeling some of the base plays will be different going forward. Also hope they hold on to all OL recruits and knock the next two classes out of the park.

The last two years, defenses dared Dwayne and JT to keep the ball. Now there were different reasons for this, but daring Justin to keep it is a very different thing, if he can be a consistent passer. His ceiling is wildly higher than JT's in the passing game.

In my opinion this is the team to do it.

Basically the entire defense is back, lots of returning skill on offense, and a highly talented quarterback.

If we can nail down the offensive line this is a very very good team.

Remember what you just posted the next time you lose your shit... rather than losing your shit, find and keep your shit.

I get 1... every year I get 1 haha.

I was markedly better than 2017 in 2018. I got money on bukipower in 2019.

Anyways the Rutgers kid would be a huge addition. OL is really the only place with a bit of a question mark.

Munford-Jackson-Meyer-Davis-Bowen would be a pretty solid 5. Would have PF and Alabi as back ups too which is nice depth.

Imo I dont see Bowen beating out NPF or Alabi at RT, especially after coming off of a gruesome injury. Hes going to be our swiss army knife backup, imo. And at best, I could see him starting at G if we dont get Jackson(who I agree would probably be the starter if we land him). This OL could shape up quite nicely but just dont have the depth all of us want.

Losing a lot of firepower in Zone6 and a new QB will have an effect on offensive production but the defense should be vastly improved and the kicking game should be solid. Our "issues" looking ahead seem small compared to others.

Yeah I really struggle to see where Bowen fits. He was one our best lineman 2 years ago so he's probably one of our better guys. Not to mention one of our most seasoned guys too (then again hasn't played for 1.5 years)

What we lose in Zone 6, we immediately replace. I see little drop off if the WR rotation is:
Mack
Hill
Olave
Victor
Saunders
Harris
Gill
Smith
Wilson( I concede to you @Hstead)

Losing a talent like Haskins certainly hurts, but I think Fields has too many weapons in the WR room, and also with the versatile RBs, like: Dobbins and McCall

Honestly, Olave is probably, together with Michael Thomas, as impressive a receiver as I've seen at tOSU since Paul Warfield. Great talent there that will only get better.
