Considering the insane amount of luck it takes to win it all and the insane circumstances it took to hand the 2019 its only loss, I'm pretty comfortable calling them the best OSU team ever.
If Fields was in his second year of Day and Co I’d agree with you. Trevor was better than JF but next fall JF will be a fully functional Death Star. Trevor and JF will go 2 1 in the draft next year.

That's fine. You can call them whatever you want. But a large banner that says National Champion wont be in the Woody, the greatest, who are champions. Have those.

I disagree when it comes to the pre-playoff era and maybe the pre-BCS period too. There are a lot of teams that had legit claims to Championships, but never got to play for one, when the championship was basically a beauty contest, and the top 2 teams weren't even paired against each other in a bowl game.

Not sure what you are saying.

My point is that often the "best" teams at OSU haven't won the NC while the '54, '57, '68, '02 and '14 teams did.

You could easily argue that the list of 61, 69, 73, 95, 96, 98, 05, 15 and now 19 were better than the teams that actually won the NC in their eras.

I'd put that '19 team up against '14 and '15 any day of the week.

IMO, if you're the best than you win it all. No excuses, you are the national champion and beat every team that was in your path.
Now, OSU has had teams(including 2019) that were extremely talented, and IMO that doesn't make them the best.
And we can agree to disagree, on the hypotheticals on who would win in what era, with which players. But like Herm Edwards has stated "you play to win the game", hence. if you don' win then you are not the best.

You’re missing the point and also leaving out a ton of other factors.

If this 2019 team played 2014 Bama & Oregon, they win both by 40. If your only argument for this team not being the best OSU team of all time is that they lost a game, you’re already starting off wrong.

I guess you're also missing a point, if using a hypothetical situation is your argument. That sounds like what Bama fans do yearly when they dont win the NC.

I will say the '19 team started making mistakes in the Rutgers game and it felt like they never got back to being flawless, or even close to it.

Maryland was the highpoint of execution with the onside kick and all. Something was off after that.
YES! I said this a few times before... even in that game early when we were up a few scores it just didn't look the same for some reason.

We got stuffed at the goal line, gave up multiple big plays, and lacked the execution we had prior to the 2nd bye week.
