Link to the B1G chant please, other than a very rare bit of mockery in a SEC bowl tilt.

That's what the defeated do. That's not what winners do.

Doormats are not foolish because they want the SEC to get a lot of respect. It's smart to want LSU and Bama and UGA to be revered. They are foolish because they pretend they share in Bama's identity.

If it's dumb, at least it's popular. Fans may be dumb, but they're also creatures of regional loyalties. Conferences play into that. If nothing else, conference loyalty keeps fans interested in watching games outside those of their favorite team or sport.

More than that, perceived conference strength plays into pre/post season rankings. It plays into media coverage. It's a part in which games are selected for prime time or 11 am, and national vs regional coverage. You think it's all because of geography that no one ever sees Pac 12 football?

Say what you will about the intelligence of Joe Fan, his perceptions of conference strength and loyalty are components in TV's decisions as to which teams and which games get seen.

For these reasons, I believe that conference strength is a factor in recruiting.

Which is the same thing as "I want MSU to win for the sake of the B1Gs reputation.
