big jumps happen just about year. what conference team from last year's middle and lower half is primed to make a similar jump? by all accounts, osu fits perhaps the best. illinois, too. but the rest? i'm not seeing it. big jumps don't have to happen... but they do.

again, as i stated before, you have to consider coaching. ho1tmann is so far batting 2-for-2. i'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

My prediction was 3rd or 4th. The B1G isn't that strong this year. Recruiting has been subpar over the last few cycles and a fair amount of talent walked out the door last year. I believe only 4 players from the 3 all conference teams return. And while we return more than most of the teams that finished higher than us, we only had 1 player, Wesson, make honorable mention all B1G. This is why I say the new guys will go a long way to determine where we finish. IT is a very good class on paper and I expect that Carton and Liddell will have an immediate impact.

I believe MSU is the clear favorite and would take them over the field to win the conference. I think Maryland has a good starting 5 (Wiggins, Ayala, Smith, Cowan and Morsell might be the best starting 5 in the league), but question their depth in the back court. I don't really buy Michigan, especially with a new coach that I am sure is nothing like (personality and style of play) the guy he replaced. I think MArylands experience in the back court as well as Smiths mismatch gives them the edge over us. I think Purdue will be tough and will be back to a grind it out team with a big lineup that is tough to score on. Happ was a really good basketball player, but may have actually held Wisky back in some aspects since he was no threat outside of about 7 feet. Their guards should find more open looks this year as they spread the floor better. I don't know Bohannon's status, but if he were healthy I think Iowa could certainly finish in the top 5. I think those 5 teams are teams that are capable of finishing ahead of us, but again, my guess would be 3rd or 4th.
