2018-2019 B1G Men's Basketball (Official Thread)

Terps with a solid win at Nebraska. Huskers are trash without Copeland. But Maryland is a good basketball team. I feel like the B1G has several teams with solid chances of making the Sweet 16 - UM, MSU, Maryland, Wisconsin and Purdue, and even Iowa has legit Sweet 16 potential.

To be fair, Illinois has played a lot of teams close, even early in the year, they seriously challenged Gonzaga. They have talent, the coaching gameplan is what is questionable.
I think Underwood's game plan is okay because he has the talent for that type of game plan. Now if he did not have the talent… entirely new ballgame. They are very young and for our sake I hope a couple of them do not like campus life and declare early. Right now, I would put them in the top half of our league and I think they should dance. I would not want to see them in our bracket in the Big Ten tournament and I think they might even get into the NCAA tournament if the selection committee knows what they are doing. I think they could be a big sleeper team.

I know that Copeland's loss has really put a damper on the team but those guys looked like they just gave up last night. Makes you wonder if Nebraska will ever be competitive in basketball and I am now wondering how much longer Miles will be there. Wonder why recruiting at Nebraska is more difficult than recruiting at Kansas  eexcept for the fact that Self probably pays a little more.

Underwood has really turned his team around; the Illini now have better wins than we do with their wins against Minny, MD (on a neutral court), and MSU. They don't look like the same team that we beat.

Also, MSU does not look like the same team that we lost to.
I am beginning to wonder really how great of a basketball coach Izzo really is. I know that he can recruit with anybody but with the talent that he gets year after year they should be as good as they are if not better. I do not see anything exceptional that he does as a coach except maybe get a little bit angrier at his players than most guys do. I guess the same could be true of most college coaches. Give them good talent and they will win. Give them mediocre talent and let us see how good of a coach they really are. I would put the guy from Doooookkk in the same basket as Izzo and Williams and Self.

Without Langford the talent level at MSU right now is good but far from great. I mean, one of their starters is a former walk-on. Ahrens was not a T100 guy, nor was Henry. McQuaid was a T100 player and Ward and Winston were T50, but none of these guys were 5-stars or anything, and I think you are starting to see some of their limitations as they get into the thick of their conference schedule and teams have learned to pick Winston up in the full-court to slow him down (plus Ward just hasn't played nearly as well since he played us, of course). In some ways I think they were over-achieving or luckier earlier in the season (teams have stopped shooting as poorly against them as they were before, and I don't think that's necessarily MSU's defense slipping a ton) and now things are reverting back to the mean. I still think they will end up a Top 5 seed.

Also I just want to say that Brad Davison is a freakin' punk from the Grayson Allen School Of Trying To Catch Hard Knocks and if Gard or the B1G or someone doesn't do something he's going to end up injuring a player with the way he plays on defense.

Iowa up 10 at halftime at Indiana. Not sure IU was all that great at East Lansing rather than catching Sparty in a rough patch (adjusting to losing Langford).
