Their recruiting has sorta dropped off too lately. It's still phenomenal, but down a bit by Alabama standards. They don't have a 5-star waiting in the wings at every position anymore.
Recruiting isn't the issue if you believe the rankings. Seems like development. The OL, LB, and DBs just don't seem to be up to the level they were 6-10 years ago. They've won two titles in the CFP era, 45-40 in 2016 and 26-23 in 2018. They have also lost 16-44 in 2019, 31-35 in 2017, and 35-42 in 2015. That's 153-184 aggregate in five elimination games, a 31-37 average.
Sure, this is a new offensive era we're in, but 37/per surrendered isn't going to win you national titles; and that completely belies their recruiting rankings, even if you subscribe to the theory it's ticked down in recent years.
I've watched everyone of these games they've both won and lost (45-40 in a WIN!!!). Their coverage has been horrific. The DL and OL are not elite. The skill positions are as good as they have ever been in Bama's storied history, but something is rotten elsewhere.
