Game Thread 2017 Cotton Bowl: OSU vs. USC - 12/29/17 @ 8:30 ET (ESPN)

Great season and proud to be a Buckeye! Yeah not in the playoffs but I can live with it. We beat some pretty good teams this year. Lost to Iowa was just to much over come, but think Bama didn't deserve to be in also. BIG Champs! When is the Spring game?! Go Bucks

Flying home from family vacation last night (never imagined the Bucks playing their bowl game this early when we booked) so didn't get to watch. Had the DVR set but the snow storm screwed up the dish so it didn't record. Completely bummed...anyone know where I can watch a replay?

On another note...Go Bucks!! So proud of these guys! Can't believe the Trojans only put up 7 points!

I'm assuming this glorious sob will have you covered soon enough.

Great win, so happy to see JT and all the seniors and Buckeyes win this game and in such a dominant fashion was just icing on the cake. This has absolutely nothing to do with it but Dabo and the rest of Clownson has been such a classless POS this year I look forward to rooting against them, I don't recall ever rooting for Alabama but I hope they beat the ever living shit out of Clemson.

"Then one play after the Buckeyes’ Sean Nuernberger opened the second quarter with a 26-yard field goal, Darnold threw a strike to a wide-open Webb — who, unfortunately for Darnold, was still playing for Ohio State. Webb brought the ball back 23 yards for Ohio State’s first return touchdown of the season, giving the Buckeyes 10 points in 13 seconds."

"USC wouldn’t match that total all night. For the Trojans the game, and the season, was as good as over."

With last night's win, tOSU will end the season with 4 wins against teams that finish in the top 15 in the country (assuming Sparty moves up after their win). That is impressive. Forget the "eye test." This team has proven on the field it can play with anyone in the country. Is it flawed? Yes. But so is every other team this year. And if we had played Mercer instead of a good Iowa team (8-5, won their bowl game) 7 days after that extremely physical and emotional win over Ped State we would be playing Monday. As many others have said, what this team has accomplished with a B1G championship, a win over tsun, and a win over USC is a great season. Maybe not the greatest season, but still a great season. As always, it's a great time to be a Buckeye!

I was waiting for that all night. Stupidly USC kept throwing mostly to our corners who, I thought, had a pretty good night.

eh, I'm gonna disagree on that. When Darnold wasn't being thrown around by Bosa, Hubbard and Co, there were wide open WR's most of the night. Okudah was getting burned pretty much the entire evening and Arnette lost his guy a few times as well. Lucky Darnold overthrew the wide open WR in the endzone the play before the missed FG

Ohio State Defensive Line Smothers Trojans In Dominant Win

The USC Trojans are nicknamed for a group of people who were duped by a brilliant plan to slip untouched past their formidable defenses and be largely pillaged and ransacked. Friday night in the 2017 Cotton Bowl, the Ohio State Buckeyes repeated that Trojan history on nearly every snap.

The OSU defensive line spent most of the night racing through, around, and over the USC offensive line and conquered their opponents without much of a fight. No wooden horse needed.

The Buckeyes racked up a Cotton Bowl record eight sacks, including a game-high 2.5 from DE Sam Hubbard, to frustrate and stifle a powerful USC offense. That pressure forced Trojan QB Sam Darnold to rush throws, and led to four turnovers.

“I mean, they’re, obviously, a really good defensive line. They’re probably the best I’ve played,” Darnold said after the game.

On the opening drive of the game, Darnold completed a pass to WR Deonta Burnett for a first down, but CB Kendall Sheffield forced a fumble. The Buckeyes recovered, setting up a short OSU touchdown drive and setting the tone for the rest of the evening.

The second turnover came early in the second quarter with USC already down 10-0. Darnold dropped back and tried to hit Burnett again, but S Damon Webb jumped the route, intercepted the pass and ran it back 23 yards to make it 17-0.

“I made a bad read on the pick six. I shouldn’t have thrown it, obviously,” Darnold said. “He jumped inside of the receiver right after the ball was snapped, and I didn’t see him. And it was a bad play on my part.”

It's been fun making jokes at Darnold's expense, but I really have to hand it to him for his conduct leading up to, during, and after the game.

He's been the epitome of class, giving respect where it is due and shouldering the blame for what went wrong. I hope he finds success at the next level.
