Game Thread 2017 Cotton Bowl: OSU vs. USC - 12/29/17 @ 8:30 ET (ESPN)

Anyway, great season. I had thoughts early on that they could make some huge strides and become what the 2014 team was, but as good as this team is, it did not have that extra gear. Sometimes that's just how it is. Argue that this or that held them back, but the team hit its ceiling against PSU, which was an amazing, unbelievable comeback. It also made it very clear that even after a bye, this team was never going to eliminate the sloppiness and lack of focus that plagued them in both big wins and big losses.

After Iowa I was just hoping for a shot at a conference title, and they more than delivered for themselves and the fans. 12-2, spanked TSUN, conference title, dominant win over a good USC team. Everyone wants NCs obviously, but that's a fucking great year. I can't remember any better non-NC seasons in the last 25 years.

Time to celebrate, take a breathe, re-watch some highlights and think about next year. It'll be very interesting to see what happens with the offense, but I'm very excited with who will most likely be coming back. Go Bucks and happy New Year!

How about 1996- Beat Pitt 72-0; beat top ten teams Notre Dame and Penn State. (Unfortunately lost to UM.) Beat ASU in the Rose Bowl and finished second in the AP final Poll.

Thought 09 was pretty good. After the heartbreaking USC loss, probably win that game if we don't lose 3 or 4 yards on 3rd down and we kick a FG to go up 18-10, and the Purdue upset, beat Iowa to win the Big Ten, and play a complete game in the Rose Bowl. Perhaps Pryor's best all-around game considering the stage as well.

Yeah when they were talking to begin the game about how USC thought they could run on OSU. I was like what game film were they watching?

DAMON WEBB, J.T. BARRETT CAPTURE MVP HONORS FOR OHIO STATE'S 24-7 COTTON BOWL WIN OVER USC

Ohio State smothered USC on the way to a 24-7 win in the Cotton Bowl Friday night, with two players leading the charge to account for all three of the Buckeyes' touchdowns.

Those two, safety Damon Webb and quarterback J.T. Barrett, were honored with MVP awards for their efforts following the win – ensuring their final games for Ohio State will be remembered forever.

Webb takes home the McKnight Trophy for outstanding defensive player in the Cotton Bowl following a performance that saw the Detroit native return an interception for a touchdown, run back a fumble that set up another Ohio State touchdown and five tackles on the evening.

Barrett earned the Sanford Trophy as the game's most outstanding offensive player for leading the Buckeyes in rushing with 66 yards and scoring two first half rushing touchdowns. While likely not a factor in the award, the quarterback also set the Big Ten total offense record Friday night, surpassing Drew Brees' previous mark. Not bad.
