2017 CFB Bowl Games Open Thread

You don't win 5 fucking titles by luck or 'being handed them'. Didn't hear much complaining when we were in the playoff last year despite not winning our division, either. Saban has earned the benefit of the doubt, plain and simple. If we win 5 titles over 10 years, maybe one day we will too.

Just no way around it, Alabama and Nick Saban are the gold standard right now and have been for 10 years. We are in the era of Alabama.

I could argue Ohio State is right there behind them as the second best program in the country right now, nothing to scoff at. But the consistency of Alabama is just insane. Props to them. I don't agree with them being given "benefits of the doubt" based on prior seasons but I can't deny that Alabama is a title threat each and every year. At the end of the day putting them in the playoff was the right call, in the sense that they would have been the most competitive of any of the teams the committee had to choose from.

Eventually Saban will retire and this era will come to an end, but right now living in it, it's definitely obnoxious to me as a fan of the sport but also impressive. I'd compare it to New England's dominance in the NFL. I am sick of it, but I can't hate on it.

You think the committee should take past championships into account?

Should they take recent performance into consideration? No. Do they? Absolutely. It's human nature, for better or worse.

You're the committee, you have to pick the 4 *best teams* to compete for a NC. This year, when you went by resume, you picked the Top 3 pretty easily. The last spot was the tricky one - OSU or Alabama? There are good arguments for and against both sides.

Unfortunately for us, at the end of the day, the committee is made of humans. And humans rely on gut instinct just as much as facts. The committee "knows" exactly what they're getting with Bama. They're getting a team that has won 5 of the last 9, and has lost by 2 TDs only once in the past decade. With us, they have no idea what they're getting. We left any good will we had accumulated with the committee in Glendale, after we embarrassed them for controversially selecting us over a conference winner. So this year, they picked Bama - the 'safe choice.'

It sucks, but the solution is to not let subjectivity play a role. Don't lose to Iowa by 30 points. 11-1 + Conference winner (objectively)> 11-1 Non-Conference winner.

Realistically speaking, BAMA shouldn't have even been there. They get to sit out of the SEC championship because they didn't earn the right to be there based on regular season play. So you mean to tell me the team that was the 3RD BEST in their conference has a chance to play in the national championship? They slide right in with 1 less game played. Ridiculous...

Didn’t watch a single minute of the game live. Watched a clip of the final play of OT on Deadspin.

Have watched a total of zero plays live between two SEC teams in two separate national championships. It took a lot for me not to watch, as I consider college football my favorite sport to watch. Despite the ridiculous amount of commercials that the NCAA has pumped into the game, this year especially.

Also, my score prediction in the Bowl Pick Em was Alabama winning 27-24. Not too shabby.
