It's not a disgrace, it just doesn't really make any sense. There aren't any Big Ten teams in NYC or New York state. Having the tournament in NYC isn't going to make anyone in NYC that wasn't going to watch the tournament anyway suddenly want to watch the tournament. It just comes off like a sad move to try to steal the magic the Big East tournament used to have and that's really not going to happen.Let's be real. Crap games between Illinois-Iowa and Rutgers-Minnesota aren't going to be popular anywhere.
I do not have a problem with the BTT being in NYC. I don't prefer the early timing and condensed schedule they had to use to get there, but as a 1-time thing it's not intolerable. I would not have any qualms with a return to NYC once a decade so long as they switch to Barclays and have a normal schedule.
People are bitching about everything these days. A conference tourney in NYC, what a disgrace boo hoo.
Hmmm a trip to Detroit ... sounds much better than a visit to NYC.It's not a disgrace, it just doesn't really make any sense. There aren't any Big Ten teams in NYC or New York state. If they don't want to have it in Indianapolis every year, that's fine. Chicago, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, Detroit, Milwaukee, and Cleveland all have NBA arenas and are all within the conference's geographic footprint.
Is that the determining factor? What spot is best for a week long vacation for the minority of fans that are going?Hmmm a trip to Detroit ... sounds much better than a visit to NYC.

It's late February. Have it in Miami.
By having it in NYC, it has fucked the entire regular season schedule for off of the Big Ten teams. I would not want it to be in Minneapolis but I certainly think that might be a better destination then NYC if it did not screw up the entire regular season schedule. I wonder why the ACC and SEC and never played their tournaments in NYC if it is such a great idea. That the Big East have NYC and maybe we will get back in 2035 or sometime thereafter.Excuse me for wanting a place to travel to to be a real travel destination instead of a dump. NYC is not really a far distance from a lot of B1G teams, it is a very easy flight for most. The logic of conference's geographic footprint is flawed. Baltimore is in the footprint now. So is Atlantic City, Philadelphia, and Newark. I dont see them as good destinations, just saying. I doubt attendance would be at all better if it was in Minneapolis instead of NY, and there would be the same distance complaints.
Some of the complaints strike me as if they are from "purists" that think the tourney should be in Indy or Chicago every year. Because the 21-year old tournament is so historic and traditional.
probably the eldest conference tournament, the ACC tournament, holds their postseason tournament in driving distance of every school that is a member of the ACC and that goes way backI not aware of any power conference that holds the tournament in the same city every year. Most I think travel to many different cities. I believe some people just want the tournament to be in driving distance of most programs in the league, but that isn't the case in other conferences.
If you want to take a vacation to NYC, go ahead, great choice. There's no point in putting the Big Ten tournament there though. I don't give a shit where it is as long as it's in conference territory. There are plenty of cities within that territory that are perfectly capable of hosing it.Excuse me for wanting a place to travel to to be a real travel destination instead of a dump. The ACC had their tourney in NYC just last year. DC in 2016. People here are poorly informed if they think the B1G is the only major conference to switch location to a place like NYC.By having it in NYC, it has fucked the entire regular season schedule for off of the Big Ten teams. Fans on a budget should be going to the local bar or a friend's home and watching the game there because they can't afford cable.NYC is like twice the driving distance for your average Big Ten school compared to Chicago or Indianapolis. Obviously most people will probably fly to NYC, but it discourages the fan who wants to drive from West Lafayette or Urbana and experience the tournament on a budget. So IMO it has less to do with creating a "travel destination" for Big Ten fans than it has to do with Delany's continued ham-handed attempt to establish an Eastern footprint.
