2016 Fall Camp Discussion

OK, I thought that I could answer that. I was at the 1997 Rose Bowl and still have my program; it just lists him as a Freshman (unfortunately nobody is listed as a redshirt anything). However, I did find a piece of paper in the program (that I don't remember even getting):

Based on this picture that was on the internet, Copper's autograph looks pretty legit:

Anybody have any idea who the 2nd (lower) autograph is?

Orlando Pace #75? Pretty awesome piece of paper if it is.

When's the last time a WR made a real impact as a true freshman? I can't think of one. Ginn made an impact on the football field, but as a WR he only had 25 catches and 2 TD's.

Was Boston a true freshman or did he red shirt? He had 33 catches and 7 TD's.

Boston was a true freshman in '96 and obviously had an impact as a WR (33 rec/450 yds/7 TD)

Aside from Ginn, as you pointed out, there haven't been any other true freshman impact WR's

Michael Jenkins had the biggest first year since (almost a thousand yards in '01) but wasn't a true frosh.

I thought Boston was a true frosh but couldn't remember for sure. Before that I would guess you'd probably have to go back to Cris Carter. It's very encouraging what everyone is saying about Austin Mack but I'd bet he has fewer than 30 catches and fewer than 5 TD's.

PRESSER BULLETS: URBAN MEYER BREAKS DOWN OHIO STATE'S FIRST DAY OF 2016 FALL CAMP

The 2016 Ohio State football season is officially under way, as evident by the sound of whistles and shouts on the grass fields at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center Sunday.

After taking his fifth Buckeye team through practices both in the morning (freshmen and newcomers) and afternoon (upperclassmen, in addition to a trio of true freshmen) head coach Urban Meyer met with the media to break down the action.

The Buckeyes return to the practice field for one practice Monday at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.

NOTES:

  • Meyer called it a "good first day" for Ohio State. He said the mantra for the 2016 season is "The Edge – where the average stops and the elite begins."
  • More on the 2016 slogan of "The Edge" is all about getting some intensity and "human spirit" going through his team so it takes pride in Ohio State. The theme of each season is carefully thought out and calculated, Meyer said.
