Or maybe they just want to start getting paid?

From the web: As of 2014, players in Europe's basketball league can expect to earn from $65,000 to $100,000 a season. While this is low compared to the $4.2 million median NBA salary, it is well above the $12,000 to $24,000 a player can expect to earn in the NBA Development League.

You could stay in school and use your degree to make more than that

Most of these players have absolutely zero interest in school and even less interest in getting a desk job. I know if it was me, I'd jump to Europe or the D-League without thinking about it. You can always come back and get your degree later.

With zero interest in school? Not on scholarship and making D-league money, these guys are coming back for a degree? When they have no interest in a desk job either? Does not compute.

Most guys who go back for a degree, have talent, and leave school early only to capitalize on millions.

come back and get their degree after 2-3 years of making minimum wage in the NBA DL?

Sounds like a solid plan

As opposed to what? Struggling to juggle school and basketball while getting paid zilch to do it? At least in the d-l they could focus 100% on basketball while getting paid something. Plus they no longer have to abide by the NCAA's garbage rules.

Or they could stay in school - major in Phys ED and take the minimum full time hours - and improve? Of course, given recent performance and the rate at which marginal players have been bailing it's clear many don't see our coaching staff as key to their future success.

Already in school for free (with meals)

or

Quit school, go work at McDonalds for 2-3 years then come back to school and pay your own way

which sounds like a better idea?
