2016-2017 Ohio State Men's Basketball (Official Thread)

Not to make excuses for our disaster of a program but could one problem be a lack of talent coming out of the Midwest lately? It's not just OSU who is down this year but MSU and Indiana who normally attract a lot of top prospects seem to be lacking in talent. The Big Ten used to be such a dominant conference but this year it's a dumpster fire. Purdue who won the conference isn't good at all. Might not get a team seeded 1-4 in the tournament.

I know we lost Kennard to Duke and I think another top Ohio kid went to Kansas recently, but the talent seems to be down across the conference.

It is down, and that's certainly played a part in the decline. But this is a speed bump for Sparty. Indiana, well, really, outside of two decent seasons in '12 and '13 hasn't been consistently nationally relevant since the mid-90s. Still, neither of them got their doors blasted off by fucking Rutgers.

The B1G is down, and Thad's clearly offended anyone questioned his job security after finishing 11th and losing to 14th place Rutgers in the tourney.

Supposedly not even invited. Which doesn't make that much sense. Iowa was ranked #69 in the KenPom and received a 1 seed. Ohio State was 71st and not even offered? Oook.

Matters not to me, but odd.

The NIT 1 seeds this year were based on the "last four out" according to the NCAA committee. Then you had 10 regular season conference champs who lost in their tourney and didn't get in the NCAA, so that only left 18 at-large NIT bids.

I'm glad the team didn't make the NIT, just for the sole reason that multiple players walked off the court with 20 or so seconds remaining against Rutgers. Let that be the final game of the season for those players.

And if this isn't a clear sign that changes within the program need to be made -- I'm not talking about Thad Matta -- then the head coach is not allowed to make changes (by the OSU Admins).

I mean, Urban Meyer made the College Football Playoffs (albeit the team lost), and he's changing offices, assistant coaches and practice locations.

We thought last season was bad and this season was worse. How bad does it have to get before we can talk about Thad Matta?
