That seems like a good strategy to me.
So if the Buckeyes beat UCLA that'll neutralize the FAU debacle, right?
I, for one, am not taking any comfort in the close losses to UVA and UCLA. Moral victories are for loser programs, and Ohio State is supposed to be competing for Big Ten championships and Final Fours. It's pretty clear to me that Matta's teams absolutely have to have that 5* as a core through whom everything flows. Without him, we're a program that will end up in the middle of the Big Ten and probably make the tournament but nothing more.
No buzz around the program anymore.. but if Thad was let go I am sure he would be a hot commodity if he wanted to coach. I know the Illini fans would welcome Thad back home and I think he might just be able to keep some great kids here instead of them going elsewhere. To be fair, any coach needs players like that to compete for Final Fours. The problem is we've gone from the Thad Five, to ET/Sully/Craft Sweet 16/Final Four, to the NIT.
He's not getting those players anymore. It's getting hard to envision a scenario where he turns that around at Ohio State.

I have posted this before but has back problems are much better this year compared to prior years. A few years ago he had to lay on the locker room floor in order to get his back to the point were a couple assistants could help him up. Also, a few years ago he could not even go see recruits play. That has now changed. I am sure that his back still bothers him but not to the extent where it has affected him as a coach or a recruiter.Things are nowhere near the point that we need to talk about letting him go. I just wonder whether the health problems have reached a critical mass both in terms of his energy and possible negative recruiting against him that's keeping the Odens and Turners away that we might be in a two or three year downturn before he retires for health reasons.
Florida Atlantic was so full of confidence after their OT win in Columbus that they went to Miami (FL) and lost by 20 points.
