2016-2017 Ohio State Men's Basketball (Official Thread)

The loss at Virginia was disappointing because the Buckeyes had a real chance to win as it turned out, but given most people (myself included) expected to lose soundly I was encouraged by how well OSU competed - and without KBD.

So far there haven't been any head-scratching December losses like the two at home last year so 6-1 isn't bad at all. That said, it would help to get a win or two against the likes of UCLA and UConn, and we can't afford any slip ups in the other 4 home OOC games.

FT shooting rank for OSU the last 3+ years (350ish teams in DI)

'13-'14 - 211th
'14-'15 - 230th
'15-'16 - 235th
'16-'17 - 323rd

We haven't been average or better at FT shooting since '12-'13 thanks to Craft and Thomas taking about 45% of our foul shots.

Bottom line is that if we don't shit the bed in the B1G this season, we'll be Dancing. Which will be nice.

Problem is that UConn has gotten off to a horrible start (3-4) and THEN lost one of their best players in Alterique Gilbert. Unless they have a MAJOR turnaround, a win against them isn't going to count for much. In the preseason I thought our home game against them was our best shot at getting an OOC win against a tourney team. Now, we have to hope at least one of Marshall or Providence is a tourney team (and even then it wouldn't be a "name" win) or pray that we find a way, somehow, to get a win against #2 UCLA in their backyard.

The Buckeyes weren't left out last year because of a lack of big OOC wins, but because of two home OOC losses against nobodies. The only way UConn hurts OSU is if the Buckeyes lose. If Ohio State enters the conference season with only two losses - Virginia and UCLA - they're already way ahead of last year's team, especially if the loss to UCLA isn't a 40 point blowout.

Beating Uconn becomes pretty big now, if they were a top 25 team like they were supposed to be a loss would not be a big deal, but right now a loss to them would go down into the "bad loss" category, they just arent a good team and yea they lost Gilbert now as well. A win isnt going to count for much but a loss could definitely end up being hurting if we are one of the last few teams fighting for a tourney spot.

Getting out of non-con only losing to UVA and UCLA would be great, they wouldnt have any really great wins but avoiding the bad losses is a big plus compared to last year.

Hopefully a better performance tomorrow night against Florida Atlantic then FDU

FAU is pretty bad as well 2-5 (only 1 win against D1) and none of their games have been against upper level opponents

Sweet. Scored Huntington Club tickets for tomorrow nights game. Never been in there so definitely looking forward to this.

Anyone had these tickets before here?

I have. You can buy some alcohol/beers and bring them out to the seats. Brutus usually makes the rounds through the concourse. The line would be shorter at concessions, but don't think that matters with this opponent. Basically, booze and better views.
