2015 Sugar Bowl Less Civilized Thread (Arguments/Shenanigans)

We don't want Blake Sims running the ball because if he gets injured it affects our whole team. He has played with a sore shoulder and he runs to not get hit. I think he looks fragile running the ball. He gets the yards and gets down or out of bounds. If he goes down the read option goes out and Jake Coker comes in. While he has improved, he does not open up the game the way Sims can and elude NFL DEs as well (much like Jones/JT Barrett). Sims spent 2 years at running back and a short stint at DB. He's quick on his feet and pretty fast. He's at his best throwing play action passes or rolling to his right. He's really high in QB efficiency but that is something that the coaches require at Bama. I think the stat is a little bit artificial because the coaches engineer plays that he can execute really well. Efficiency at QB wins championships.

On that read option play /\/\/\ and the one at LSU that lost yardage he should have handed off to TJ Yeldon. He made all of those guys miss, but the read should have gone the other way. He is capable of making mental mistakes, but the coaches try to mitigate and eliminate those. We have the best QB coach/OC that we probably have ever had at Alabama. It is arguable whether or not Sims should have gotten an invite to NY. I've been really impressed with his athletic ability and his accuracy. Those fades are so automatic if the WR gets clean off the LOS Kiffin signals the TD before the pass is thrown. The safety can't get there. One to White (SEC CG) and one to Cooper (AU).

I would say the field goal kicking!!! or th secondary is the weakness or the O-line is not as dominant as I would like before I would mention that we don't really have a power RB. Sims would be somewhere way down the list of weaknesses. He has put Alabama in the playoffs starting his first season at QB. I can't imagine any Bama fan finding fault with him at this point.

My only point in bringing AJ up is that no rational Bama fan thinks Sims has been playing at the level he should be as the starter at Alabama. If anything, watching him makes people nervous. I'm sure you can agree. Aside from being a fly on your wall during the Barn game, I have a pretty rough idea of how it went down.
Well I'm a rational fan and I think he has played way above his head. Right now, only the Heisman winner has a higher QBR in the nation so you diminishing his effectiveness is quite comical. Yes, he played like crap the first half of the Auburn game. After his third INT, he led us to five touchdown drives on five consecutive possessions. He's not an NFL QB but so what. I'm sure Urban Cryer is not as dismissive of him as you are.

You can say this now that Amari saved your season. Had he not been there, Alabama goes down and they aren't even in this game. How much of that QBR does he owe to Cooper, that's a better question.

Here's a refresher:

First TD: Sims tosses it up in double coverage and Amari comes down with it.

Second and third: Amari is streaking wide open.

I didn't realize JT Barrett won the Heisman this year.
1 Marcus Mariota 89.4
2 J.T. Barrett 81.9
3 Blake Sims 80.5

I've watched pretty much every snap Blake has taken... have you? Amari is an amazing WR that has made Sims look presentable. Without him, people are calling for Blake's head this year.

My notion of Bama fans and their opinions on Sims is current, because I converse with them and have a stable of friends in Alabama. None of them would take Sims over AJ. Has nothing to do with preseason. Sims is a shaky QB with an NFL-caliber WR who consistently makes plays. So no, they still aren't shouting Blake's praises.

You would change your numbers from 800 to 1,200? How about 3,000? Hypothetical yards mean nothing. I'm basing my thoughts based on what I see with my eyes while I watch him play every week. Yours sound like they're based on what-ifs, so I'd say you don't know anything about the dude.
What-ifs? Barrett is somewhat athletic, but by no means super athletic. Sims is most definitely more athletic than Barrett. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that if Barrett would have had over 1,000 yards in our offense (with a majority of those yards being on designed runs), that Sims would have had 1,200. Seriously, 3,000? Put words into others mouths much? What I said is not much of a statement. OK athlete gets 1,000 yards. Better athlete gets 1,200 yards. WHOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. COULD HE GET 3,000 YARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRDSSSS. HAHAHA YOU SO STOOPID FOR THINKING THATTTT.

And for the Bama fans that you talk to, they sound ridiculous, spoiled, and borderline stupid. I recommend you stop talking to them. Or perhaps you just feel more comfortable around them.

...Wow.

My apologies for breaking your spirit because I don't think Sims is an excellent QB. Talk about borderline stupid. Maybe you should actually watch film instead of running to different sites trying to pull data to back your thoughts on a guy that you don't even watch play the game.

Ahh snit. Here's DeAndrew White saving our season.

He's such a snitty reciever, our season hinges on Cooper. Only reason we're in this game. Alabama is so fawking deep at WR.

It's going to be glorious seeing OSU try to figure out what to do with the Bama passing game. It is asinine for anyone to try to argue that Cooper is the only receiving threat at the Dynasty that is Alabama (91-16 under Saban).

Urban Meyer, the moral compass for compassion of others.

Well, when you consider lost yardage from sacks, he'll end up with -30 yards.

I am surprised people who couldn't pass the GED exam were able to access the internet. Go figure they would defend a coach who walked around a player suffering a seizure and did nothing about it. Then they come here and speak out their butts. At least they aren't partaking in the official activities of the state of Alabama: beating their wives or cooking meth right now. Maybe internet access is actually a good thing for that state.

You may be mistaking my initial point. It wasn't that Sims is "an excellent QB." My initial, and main point, revolved around his rushing yards total. I'm not sure, maybe you're just unable to project players from one system to another. You see Sims stay in the pocket and only get a few hundred yards on the ground and automatically think "well shit he can't run very well." But if he were at OSU, he would have designed runs, and quite a bit. And to think he wouldn't be able to rush for more than JT was able to is just naive.

And yes, I have caught a couple of Bama games. Not every snap like you said but I see a guy doing what he's been told: stay in the pocket and get it into Cooper's hands. It's like you're unable to imagine someone who's in one system and project him to another. He wouldn't be playing the same way at OSU as he is at Bama. It's not really hard to understand, and no data is needed to be pulled (ironically enough you pulled just as many statistics as I did considering I only grabbed JT's rushing yards and Sims' INT/Sacks and you pulled both Cardale's and Sims' rushing totals).

Oh c'mon! What are you thinking coming here and spewing such truths? We must bow down to the omnipresent Buckeye fans who are all knowing! ( except that the only argument that can win is by denigrating their opponents). Maybe we should only have three players on the field on offense since they are the only ones that amount to much, the center, the QB and Cooper. If we didn't have those guys, we would not have scored a single point all season.
