Game Thread 2015 Sugar Bowl: (1) Alabama vs. (4) Ohio State, Jan 1st @ 8:30p ET, ESPN (civilized thread)

Ok, I'm sold. Need to ask my cousin to grab a gallon for me.

Dreamland has changed, somehow. It's just not as tasty as it used to be. Archibalds never changes. I know none of you really care but, it was always Coach Bryant's favorite.

Back then, I am just going on word of mouth as I'm not that old, both outfits were just holes in the wall. Over the decades, Dreamland branched out and opened a bunch of franchises. They lost touch with the care and love that must go into ribs and opted for the big money.

Archibalds ranked 6th in the USA.

The only matchup im real concerned about is Ohio state dbs vs Bama wrs

If too much attention is on Cooper white is capable of torching a secondary as well.

Yeah the DL needs to put pressure on Sims where he is forced to throw the ball. When Bama gets in a rhythm they are hard to beat. Hopefully Bennett and the Diesel can put pressure up the middle to force some throws that our DBs and LBs can take advantage of.

The last time I ordered sauce I called ahead so that it would be ready when my buddy dropped by. I ended up speaking with George's son I believe. The guy was a hoot. Can't wait to get back down there and eat some ribs.

I was going off of football outsiders FEI ratings. They are adjusted for opponents. According to that, and tifwiw, the OSU defense is almost exactly on par with the LSU defense.

Now style, personnel and such I don't know. I haven't seen that much LSU football this year.

The most important takeaway should be that OSU has NFL talent on the DL and this isn't the best OL Bama has fielded in recent history so hopefully, from our perspective, it gives OSU more of a chance.

LSU personnel wise has one of the best secondaries in the nation.
Since giving the starting MLB job to Beckwith, we've really gelled into a solid overall unit.

the D-line is my biggest gripe about our D.
we're big and athletic, but we don't get much of a pass rush if we only send 4, and we're not especially solid in stuffing the run with our tackles.

as an overall unit, it works.
but if you break it down level by level, the embarrassment of riches we have in the secondary is the main reason the entire D is as successful as it is.
we have guys back there struggling to crack the 2 deep that could be starting elsewhere.

I know what Nutria is saying (and so do you sloop,)

But I have to admit, it's not arguable - we want them to lose unless we want them to win.
prior to us shitting all over ourselves to start November, there was a specific set of circumstances that would have given us a west title.
outside of those, I wanted Bama, Auburn, Ole Piss (and to a lesser extent Miss St) to love every fucking game.

FUCK BAMA!!

Cooper can be "stopped" with tight man coverage. Jam him at the line and stay on him.

but it's not him you're stopping, it's Simms.

in our game, for a chunk of it we had a truer freshman CB jamming him in tight press coverage. For the most part he was a non-factor when we did so.

when we backed off, even when we had a CB leaving early for the draft, he beat us like littl bitches.

I haven't seen enough of Simms to say that it will always work, but he never tried to force it to Cooper. If we were on him, he didn't even try.

If we were on him, he didn't even try.

He's coached to take what the defense gives him. If they play off then its lots of quick out passes. If they press then he will change his route pattern toward the weak spot on the field. Early on I see this game being more about our run game seeing if we can get consistent yardage and force the safeties to come up close. Once they do then we will try to burn them deep with White, Coop, Stewart, or Howard. We need to put the dline on their heels a bit and make them cover run before we think pass IMHO. We shall see how it plays out for the coaches though.

Let's get this back on track:

Bama fans, how much success has Smart had this year at substituting his personnel? Saban's hatred of the no-huddle offense is well known, because it limits his ability to deploy their lethal sub packages and schemes.

I ask because this year, referees have often halted the snap of the football to allow substitutions (more so with other teams, much to the frustration of Jameis ). However, one possible advantage for the buckeyes is that they will also run the no huddle without making substitutions, as they often use the same personnel (2 WR, 1 H-back/slot, 1 TE, 1 RB) across all of their formations. They also rotate bodies frequently to stay fresh, so there will be chances to substitute, but the overall personnel will remain largely the same.

I think it is going to be a great game. Two well coached teams with tons of talent. I believe the senior leadership at QB and the healing of several Ala players will be the difference. Bama players on the mend: TE Vogler, knee, LT Sims, ankle and shoulder, Center, Kelly, knee, RT Sheperd, knee, RB Yeldon, knee, WR Cooper, left knee and foot, DB Jackson, ankle, starting FG kicker, Griffith, undisclosed injury, LB Ryan, knee. As for our secondary being " weak". Our Safety, Landon Collins is an all american and a future first round draft pick. The other safety, Jarrick Williams is a senior and no daisy. No great shutdown corners but they are good enough to contain a third string, QB's passes. I don't think OSU has played a team as talented as Alabama and I like our chances.

Tex A&M, Miss State, and Aub all ran the no huddle.

Right, but did Alabama struggle to keep up with substitutions as a result? That was an achilles heel for Alabama in the past, but this year the refs have stood over the ball more frequently to allow the defense to simultaneously substitute without risking the ball being snapped.
