Game Thread 2015 Sugar Bowl: (1) Alabama vs. (4) Ohio State, Jan 1st @ 8:30p ET, ESPN (civilized thread)

I think most grads (and southern people in general) stay home. Of course, many do leave. I think it's going to be pretty close to 50/50 at the game, as it should be. An extra 5% here or there won't make a difference in that big building.

I mean, you realize there are far more Buckeye fans who travel than Alabama fans across the nation, yes? It's not even close. The Tide doesn't even own its own state in fandom with the Auburn split. Not to mention the poverty gap. Not trying to be a jerk, but yeah...

I would probably eat my shoe if it was a 50/50 split. We played LSU in their own yard and packed it out.

It's cold this time of year. We're just begging for a reason to head to a warmer climate. Bama fans... not so much. I remember seeing flurries down there a few years back and people were driving like it was a blizzard. It doesn't get too cold.

I'll be there, too. Of course, it's nice to only have an 8 hour drive. I agree with UpNorth, I see a 55-45 split in favor of Alabama. That includes the 5-10% or so S-E-C fans who will be there cheering for Bama. Not enough to really give either team a home field advantage.

I'll be there and I'll count them. I'm betting that because of proximity there are more Alabama fans but I expect the Buckeyes to be well represented.

I'm betting if they can't travel to Tuscaloosa, they won't travel well to NO. It's like a ghost town compared to Columbus. I see more people on campus during the week at Ohio State than I saw at Bryant-Denny on game day.

Not bragging here, just speaking from experience. I don't see it at all. Any other Buckeyes who have been to both, feel free to weigh in and share your thoughts.

Correct. It seems that most alumni donate to the sports program. They also join more sports related clubs for alumni in order to get preferred seating at sporting events. The funds still seem to find their way to the front office for academic scholarships, etc.
I think you missed a few points.

You can't join the Ohio State Alumni Association unless you are an Ohio State graduate.

Ohio State leads the nation in active fans and in dues-paying alumni. The margins are roughly 2 to 1 and 15 to 1 over Alabama, respectively.

The original point was that Alabama would travel better than Ohio State. Given these much larger numbers and the large numbers of Buckeyes in the South, especially retirees, I think we've refuted that argument and we can move on, don't you?

Here, here. Is it game day yet?

Apologies to all for my rants. Certainly not trying to be disrespectful, just giving my view from both sides.

I wasn't trying to make a point about who travels better than who. And to tell you the truth it doesn't matter one way or the other. I was only commenting on the large gap between the alumni members. It's dues paying membership that most grads would rather skip and send their money elsewhere.

For the record, you've been nothing but a class act. Probably the best poster from the opposing base that I've witnessed this far.

Kudos. Any other time, I'd wish you success. Just not New Years.

Thanks, Tele. Conversing with you and several others has been cool. It's always good to get insight from a different perspective. It's a shame most just seem to want to bash and belittle. Seemed like things were going well until the threads merged. It may get better yet. I hear your H back with the healing foot may be back for the bowl game. Another weapon in Urbans arsenal. Don't know much about him though. You know we have 5 Ohio guys on our team. Two starters. Trey DePriest and Ryan Kelly.
