So we've moved past how all of the other measurable variables were roughly even and now we're debating fan turnout.

I think it's pretty evident by now that there's no significant edge on paper in this game by any metric.

If by that you mean there is no clear preponderance of statistical superiority on either side, that may well be true, although I'd like to see a DaddyBigBucks-style Differential Statistical Composite analysis first.

I would guess that the common view that Alabama is more likely to win is based as much on recent history as anything else. Recent history including i) the view that the SEC is generally better than the BigTen, and ii) in particular, Alabama's recent track record of winning a lot of championships.

Again, distance is irrelevant. Any and all tickets allocated to Ohio State, along with any other available tickets, will be bought and used by Ohio State fans. If the Sugar Bowl were to suddenly ban Alabama fans from attending, the stadium would still be full. Even when we played at California last year, over half the stands were Ohio State fans despite the 2,000+ mile trek. Ohio State has the second-largest alumni base in the country behind Penn State. Alabama will have no where near 60% attendance...

I'm still sticking with most likely a 55/45 split. OSU travels well, larger alumni base than Bama, and Bama fans may be saving their money for the NCG. Now I'm sure Bama has a larger alumni base in the southeast than OSU does, but I'm not sure how much larger it is. Hell, I suppose I wouldn't even be shocked by a 55/45 split for OSU. But I'll guess 55/45 for Bama.

It's pretty hard to find large numbers of Bama fan's outside of Bama. We may be the most hated team/fanbase in the country.

So are you saying that most alumni are also inside Alabama? Or would you expect there to be a large alumni base throughout the southeast? I couldn't tell by your comment if you meant people growing up as fans only originate from Alabama, or also students coming from throughout the southeast to go to school at Bama and then working outside Alabama.

I only ask for the clarification because of a statistic I saw that about one week after the game was official, 21% of ticket sales came from Ohio and 18% from Alabama. If what you're saying is true, and there are very few Bama fans/alumni outside of the state of Alabama, then that would lead me to believe that there's a better chance than I originally thought that OSU could have more fans there.
