Game Thread 2015 Sugar Bowl: (1) Alabama vs. (4) Ohio State, Jan 1st @ 8:30p ET, ESPN (civilized thread)

You're a good dude, Cashwell. Hope you keep your account active after the game and stick around. Preferably when tempers aren't flaring so much.

These guys that add nothing but "RTR" and assume it will be a massacre can find the door after the game.

Thanks! I just realize you don't go into another man's house and tell him how much better yours is. Especially when I may be wrong.

All that said:
Rrrrrooooollllll Taaaaahhhhhdddd Paawwwwll!!!

Oh, make no mistake, I do my fair share of letting my pride run loose where I'm from. I just don't go to another team's forums and tag every post with it. lol

In other words, I'm not sure why people go to the trouble of creating an account if all they have to say is: "YALL GON GET KILLED RTR!" -- but then again, this is the internet, so I can't be too surprised.

On that note, one time I was at a Taco Bell in Alabama and this huge chick was out in the parking lot screaming "RMFT!" ...which was pretty hilarious, honestly.

I appreciate your respect for bama. I just think the bama vs miss state game was one of those days that went bama's way.

Let it be known that bama turning the ball over at a key moment was no fluke, but rather something that has plagued bama.

I've always liked Bama. One of my favorite players of all time is Johnny Musso. Shows you how old I am. :-)

BTW - One play that is hardly ever mentioned in the Ole Miss game is how Bama got away with a face mask when the Ole Miss guy fumbled the ball and it was returned for a TD. Terrible "no call" that was a cheap TD for the Tide. Ole Miss played a great game that day imho.

I was always a defensive guy so two of my all time favorite players were Cornelius Bennet and Derrick Thomas who were both Tide players. Didn't care for their pro teams, especially Bennet, but great players.

I've never really had a huge issue with Bama despite the stuff flying around in the non civilized thread. Gator fans were the trashiest group of mouthbreathers I consistently encountered living in the south.

A good friend of our family whom we came to know down there is an OSU grad and his oldest goes to Bama so I know its a good place or she wouldn't be there.

If they beat us I will root for them against whomever.

Can someone explain why the Crimson Tide use gray elephants? Especially when the odd mascot origin was based on a red elephant?
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/dr-sa...-elephant-mascot-big-al-182530115--ncaaf.html

I don't think the color really matters. I've never seen a red elephant. IMO the term red was used more to liken elephants to crimson clad players than to invent a red elephant. The folk lore of our mascot originated on the field and I don't consider that set in stone though there obviously are some things that you want to hold on to. We use the seal like logo at midfield. There area lot of different logos used now. The script A, the elephant behind the A, the elephant face, and etc. That's just licensing doing their thing. When they went away from the classic elephant stepping through the block A there was some backlash. People don't really care what the logo is as long as the team wins. That's what matters.

Thanks. I think they are both interesting mascot concepts (and fairly original), they just don't seem to mesh very well.

The weirdness is compounded by the similarly confusing term vs animal elsewhere in your state :)

Well, I was born in Pensacola and spent the first 10 years of my life as an Alabama fan before my parents moved back to Alliance. The rest is history but if there is one team down there I respect more than others and don't dislike like the others it is Alabama.

The injustice has been corrected. Care to comment on the pretty in-depth breakdown?
He hasn't fixed it yet. I don't know how you can fuck up a four letter last name of a guy you've looked at and diagnosed/analyzed so much. Little shit probably did it on purpose.

Sims has locked onto his first read a good bit. That's one of the reasons I was thinking Coker might start this season. Sims ability to do checkdowns and go through progressions has been his biggest weakness and probably why he is projected 7th-FA in the draft. With another year in the system I think he would continue to improve and be drafted as a QB. If you watched the ironbowl on one of the interceptions (the one shown in the article) they left Christian Jones wide open - by 10 yards. It was an error on Sims to throw to Coop, but you shouldnot/cannot leave Jones that open. He made that checkdown against aTm though it was to Yeldon.

I think maybe the throws across the middle are a weakness? IDK he is so accurate and his balls come out so fast. I think the reason the slot position suffers and the middle throws are not there is because Christian Jones and OJ Howard have bulked up a bit to block. Both of those guys are pretty good and pretty fast, but trying to cover them with linebackers? No. Two strikes down the middle to OJ Howard (OM, WVU) were picked off partly because OJ did not fight for the ball. The throws were there. Ardarius Stewart might be a surprise sprung on a team not expecting a speedy slot guy. He should be healthy. Kiffin laments losing Drake (against OM) who is an absolute nightmare to line up against.

Alabama is really versatile I don't see "icloud" or whatever being an end all answer. OSU is going to have to have a crafty defensive mind and be able to play one of his best games to slow that offence down. It makes it all harder when they go fast. I think OJ Howard has been a key contributor despite his lacking stats just because he is a bit of a mismatch. Hard for a linebacker to cover and capable of handling his own in blocking roles. Maybe Sims is just slow to read the middle. If he throws the ball sooner the CB and safeties would not have gotten to Howard in time to pick the ball. It might work. If Sims doesn't read the middle in time you might get away with linebackers covering the slot/TE. I wouldn't count on that as the basis for my defense.

Then there is Derrick Henry off of the edge. Sht. I wouldn't want to have to work a game plan for that. Forcing a passing game, making Sims checkdown, and hoping someone gets there in time if he does might be the best option. I would start by trying to steal signals, analyzing tendencies, and reading keys though. Don't try to defend everything, just the play that Alabama is about to run.
