Freshmen Offensive Linemen Already Turning Heads for the Buckeyes
The Buckeyes signed five offensive linemen in the 2015 recruiting class, which is a fairly large haul for a single class. It was understandable, however, because the 2015 OSU offensive line will be graduating three seniors after the season.
Because the current two-deep on the offensive line is littered with veterans, none of the true freshmen are expected to be relied upon this season, but that hasn't stopped them from hitting camp and impressing their teammates.
Speaking with the media on Wednesday, sophomore middle linebacker Raekwon McMillan was asked which freshmen on the team are standing out to him, and he didn't hesitate to mention the offensive line.
"Some of the young O-linemen," he answered quickly. "The O-linemen that we have didn’t really come in as developed as this line right now. They came in, they’re working hard, they’re playing fast. They’re really coming on."
Those linemen — Kevin Feder (6-9 305), Branden Bowen (6-7 320), Isaiah Prince (6-7 305), Grant Schmidt (6-6 300), Matthew Burrell (6-4 300) — came to OSU with varying degrees of ballyhoo, and so far the returns have been pretty good.
"Ooh, wow!" smiled Ed Warinner when asked about his rookies. "Great work habits, great size, great athleticism, appeared to have toughness and good demeanor today, and very coachable. High football I.Q.s. It wasn't like they didn't understand what was going on, so I think they all have the whole package. It's a pretty good group. They're big and athletic."
