Stole this from a poster at 247, but definitely interesting:

http://ohiostate.247sports.com/Board/120/Contents/Oregon-plays-fast-but-doesnt-Ohio-State-34590447

So on the Community Thread, there's been a lot of pub about Oregon's tempo/speed/lighting quick drives etc. As such, it's caused me to delve into the numbers and real extract some data from the primary question: Is Oregon's offense THAT much faster than Ohio State?

On the Community Thread, the debate started with the punter. Who has the better punter? An Oregon fan said they don't really know because they "never punt."

Not true. In fact, would it amaze you to learn that, through 14 games, Oregon has punted only 4 fewer times than the Buckeyes? Oregon has punted the ball on 41 occasions, Ohio State has done so on 45 occasions.

When this was brought up in the thread, it was qualified by an Oregon fan who stated the gap is actually larger because "Oregon runs so many more plays than Ohio State". And we've heard that a lot, Oregon runs a LOT of plays.

Would it then boggle your mind to learn that, on average, Oregon runs 2.2 more plays than Ohio State per game. Because that's the difference. 2.2 plays.

When confronted with this, Oregon fans said that "Well those two plays matter because Oregon has a "ton" of 2-3 play drives." So I consulted the drives.

Oregon, on the season, touchdown drives of 3 plays or less: 13. Ohio State: 16

Next question please--"It's because most of Oregon's punts come when the game is in hand and the second string is in."

Fact: Oregon has punted a higher percentage of their punts in the first half (59%) than Ohio State (47%).

Final "Duck Fact": "The large majority of our scoring drives are under 2 minutes"

Oregon Ducks touchdown drives under 2 minutes: 8.
Ohio State Buckeyes: 10

Moral of this story--Oregon plays fast. Oregon scores fast. Oregon has tempo.

But so do the Buckeyes.
