Re: 1969 OSU vs MI

MI ~ Illinois 57-0
OSU ~ Illinois 41-0

MI ~ Purdue 31-20
OSU ~ Purdue 42-14 and this was the game before "The Game"

MI ~ Minnesota 35-9
OSU ~ Minnesota 34-7

MI ~ Washington 37-7
OSU ~ Washington 41-14 The Washington game was the 2nd game for both teams.

The Buckeyes were the favorite to be sure, but even without the Bo/Woody connection, this game always looked like it would be close. Plus it was played at MI. My vivid memory is the second half was scoreless as Woody went to the air often. Gasp! Also, not only was Bo from Barberton, but their running back Billy Taylor was as well. And Mandich the team captain was from Cleveland. IIRC it seemed like half their starting line-up was from Ohio.

And then you add that this years game is at MI. And as much as some of you really despise MI and Harbaugh, MI's defense this year was one of the best. Just ask the Buckeyes at halftime of the 2014 game when they had Heisman candidate JT for the whole first half. And Harbaugh did defeat Southern Cal a couple times at Stanford when USC had much better talent on the field.

Not to be Debbie Downer, just adding some truth into the discussion. And I know 100-0 is hyperbole, but I'd be very happy with a 14-13 win this Nov.

btw, in 1969 I was a sophomore in hs and didn't know squat re: comparative stats and didn't know about the Bo/Woody connection, so it was quite a shock when the Buckeyes lost. But it was far from being the upset of the century, except to MI fans.

This is why the last 14 years of the "rivalry" has been quite enjoyable.

Oh btw, The Ohio State University is/are the 2014 Undisputed College National Football Champions !!!

carry on

This video is making the rounds on some sport sites. Couple of douchebags dressed as Ohio State fans.

That guy is nothing compared to the douche in the bathroom. That said, almost all fans I saw from both sides were great but the dude in the bathroom - I would have preferred he be put in a holding cell for a quarter of the game....see if he could eventually figure out that bullying just isn't the cool thing to do.

Just regaining my voice a couple days later. I doubt they could here me from the high altitude seats we were in, but we made a lot of noise up there anyway.

Sometimes it's still hard to believe they did it. Each season is a journey with peaks and valleys, but there were some pretty significant mountains this year, somehow they found a way. Glad to be along for the ride.

Clemson is my sleep pick, didn't think it'd be popular lol

I can see Dabo running the table in the ACC but replace Clemson with Georgia or Bama and that wouldn't suprise me

Or 12-0 Boise St sneeks in? Not after they loose that awesome RB they have
I'd love to see the secsecsec shut out of the playoffs just for the messageboard/radio rant. But I'd expect one of bama/uga/auburn to make it in. Florida and tenn are a few years away from being able to compete and I expect only one of them will rise up unless uga collapses.

Was listening to Colin Cowherd show: He claimed that Urban a week before the Oregon game, put the Buckeyes OL (or maybe DL) on weight watchers and everyone lost a couple of pounds. Says this gave the OL a mental boost that they could run with Oregon's fast tempo.
I don't know about weight watchers, but after listening to how Oregon was going to wear out the Bucks' D-line, it was the Oregon D that was gassed, hands on hips, on the sidelines gasping for air, going off with the kinds of injuries that pop up when your exhausted - something Chris Fowler spotted and commented on - but little has been made of since. Hard to be SEC/Oregon fast when your lungs are screaming for air.

Well that will happen when you have long drives and a huge time of possession advantage. Our offense's ability to convert on 3rd and 4th down was huge.

Watching the game again. The lack of size in the Oregon secondary is.... Insane. That 3rd down stop by Reggie Daniels, heck of a tackle. But Fowler said his listed stats as 6'1 205. My ass. That guy might be 180. #3 their gunner on the punt might be 150lbs. Troy Hill can only be 165lb.

Point being, it wasn't just the Duck front 7 that was tired of contact with EzE. The safeties as well wanted zero part of a kid that relishes contact.

That 4th down stop near the goal line while up 14-7. Curtis Grant played Mariota like a fiddle. He slides out with the motion but doesn't commit knowing that if Mariota sees favorable numbers he's handing it off the whole way.

He slides a yard or and immediately attacks the ball carrier with Tyvis cleaning up.
Couldn't have played it any better.

Edit: My confidence that next years defense will be better especially against the run. Disciplined play and growth from the linebackers. But Washington, man... This kid had a hell of a game. Bennett had some decent pressures but Wash really was disruptive, especially on the interior pass rush. I've no doubt we'll have another great interior pairing next season.
