Game Thread 2015 National Championship Game: (2) Oregon vs. (4) Ohio State, Jan 12th @ 8:30p ET, ESPN

I don't know mate. Their DLine was eating Florida State's OL for breakfast, and Florida State's recruiting has been pretty top notch.

I think their lines can compete with just about anybody.
Have you watched them much this year? They were pretty bad most of the season.

From Nov. 4:

http://www.tallahassee.com/story/sp...offensive-line-starting-find-rhythm/18478019/

Frankly, it looked like the offensive line everyone was expecting to see in 2014. With four starters back from last year's unit, which broke NCAA records on its way to the national title, some publications predicted the Seminoles would have the best offensive line in the country this season.

But there have been struggles. Florida State rushed for negative yards against a stout Clemson defense (but still won). Then rushed for less than two yards per carry against Notre Dame (but still won).

With starting center Austin Barron out for the year with a broken arm, redshirt freshman Ryan Hoefeld has stepped into the middle of the Seminoles' line. The Louisiana native hasn't exactly been Bryan Stork 2.0 in his first three starts, but if Thursday night was any indication the chemistry is starting to return for the Seminoles up front.

Been hearing this shit for years. I remember I'm 2012 @OregonBuckeye telling me how the Duck ends would give Bama tackles fits. Told him I didn't buy it and that defense would be exposed soon enough.

Like clockwork - USC drops 50 points on them the next week.

I'll believe it when I see a full season of quality defense out of the duckies.

I think Florida State suffered from their own success and an extreme lack of leadership.

They out talented everyone they played all year and absolutely fell apart against a good Oregon team.

They were a very scary team due to the NFL talent across the board, but they were not a scary team in the Rose Bowl due to the above.

Take it with however much salt you require but from football outsiders, from all games played before the playoff started:

Offensive Line Adjusted yards rankings

Oregon 1
OSU 2
Alabama 6
FSU 46

Defensive line adjusted yards rank:

Alabama 1
FSU 46 (not a typo)
OSU 59
Oregon 65

Not sure there is a ton to take from that.

It all comes down to turnovers imo. They have lived on them all year.

Fair points. I just don't want us getting overconfident about this game, considering they dominated a pretty stacked FSU team (not to mention, beat Mich St and Arizona).

Reminds me too much of what Bama fans were saying before the Sugar Bowl...

It means we get to test the adage - does defense win championships? It's clear Ohio State is going to move the ball on Oregon, but can they get enough defensive stops to make a difference.

As I told the bama trolls, Ohio State will get their yards and points, it's about if they can stop the other offense that will tell the tale.

FSU was #101 in the country in TO margin and #124 of 125 in turnovers lost.

They played and won, so many close games because they were that much more talented than everyone else and could over come it.

First time they played a team with equal or more talent, they had 5 TO's and were obliterated

It doesn't matter what the fans think, it's about the team.

There is no team in the country that is as improved, hungrier, or more focused than Ohio State right now.

Urban Meyer is the best coach in college football thanks to how good he is at preparing his teams for games like this.

The team will be hungry and focused regardless of our message board chit chat.

This isn't the Oregon team of the 2009 Rose Bowl that you could beat up on both sides of the ball. They are good on both lines and when you combine that with their scheme and a Heisman trophy QB, you have a very formidable opponent.

I agree

2 very equally matched teams

Oregon offense is probably a little better, especially at QB
OSU defense is probably a little better

Not sure on ST given their KR's injury

....broken record but turnovers, turnovers, turnovers. Win that battle and probably win the war

I've no doubt of this. Mariota is heads and shoulders above Massoli. I just don't buy into the Ducks being elite where it matters most - the trenches.

I need to go on record again. I told you guys that I would be very surprised if Ohio State made it to the B1G championship, more surprised if they won. I would be even more surprised if they got into the CFPs and won the first game. For the sake of consistency, I will be very surprised if they beat Oregon by a score in the range 45-42 to say 42-38.

The good news about turnovers is that tOSU has done it enough that all key ball handlers have something to humble them in the next 10 days. The shame should be seared into their lives by now.

Put me down for predicting 44-14 for the good guys, judging from history.
