2015 B1G Football Discussion

10 biggest non conference games are probably:

Ohio State at Virginia Tech
Oregon at Michigan St
Wisconsin vs Alabama
TCU at Minnesota
Michigan at Utah
BYU at Michigan
Nebraska at Miami Fla
BYU at Nebraska
Stanford at Northwestern
Maryland at West Virginia

Bama and TCU waxing the two best teams in the B1G West would not be a great start. I honestly have no idea what to expect from Harbaugh's Wolverines, but if it were Hoke with that roster I'd predict 0-2 against Utah and BYU. Nebraska is in the same boat against the Canes and BYU: 2-0, 1-1, 0-2 ... none of those outcomes would really be a surprise to me. Don't think the Mildcats can withstand the pounding of Stanford Football(tm), unless Stanford is bad, in which case a win doesn't validate anything because Stanford forgot to play Stanford Football(tm).

If Sparty is 100% healthy I like them at home against the Ducks on the strength of superior line play on both sides. Sparty's defense may even be Dantonio-era Buckeye good. But if guys are dropping like flies... Yikes.

As has been the case for about seven or eight years now, I'm hoping for a solid showing, while fully expecting our conference brethren to [Mark May] the bed, because that's what they do.

Don't like any of those matchups... Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Nebraska all lost their centerpiece and none have a QB.
scUM didn't have a centerpiece player to lose and doesn't have a QB.
BYU is a trap with an experienced QB... you don't get credit for beating them, only slammed for losing. And I think they can win both those games.
Maryland seems to like their new QB... so that's not too bad against WVU?
Not sure what to expect with MSU-Oregon... if MSU can pull it off, that by itself will be more than enough.

The good news is, don't need the conference this year. Ohio State comes in with all the momentum and the roster very deep... step on everyone's throats.

In 2014 Sparty was up 24 - 18 at the half and then died. The game this year is in East Lansing and the defense will play a full 60 minutes; besides there isn't anybody named Mariota on the Oregon team this year. Even Corso can pick the winner this year:

P.S. I have no idea who Alice Cooper will pick this year.

Tommy Schutt is probably capable of being that guy that doesn't hurt you, but is unlikely capable of being a difference maker. I say that because if he was a difference maker, he would have probably made a difference already. I hope he does well, but if he doesn't, at some point in the season, I expect you will see one of the young fellas start to emerge. But as we sit here today, Schutt is a depth guy.

Wouldn't it be interesting if someone like Sam Hubbard would turn in a wrecking-ball type of performance against VT? For the rest of the season, you would have OT's peeing down their legs with Bosa + another impact DE to contend with.

As for CB, some people who appear know more than I do (which isn't saying a whole lot) say that Webb will eventually be the guy there, and Gareon will go to nickel back. FWIW
When I was referring to Schutt, that's what I meant. Basically what Miller/Frazier were for us last year. Solid, but not stars. If we get that out of Schutt I think we'll have an elite defense. Even without that I think we have a very, very good one.

The Big Ten is Trending Up But Can Momentum Carry Over in 2015?

DoubleB1G.jpg

You’ve heard it for years around college football. The SEC is the top dog. For almost a decade, everywhere you turned it was “SEC this,” and “SEC that,” and rightfully so.

The Southeastern Conference won seven straight national championships before Florida State defeated Auburn in the 2014 BCS National Championship Game.

It began in 2006 when Florida, led by Urban Meyer, defeated heavily-favored Ohio State 41-14. LSU kept momentum rolling the following year with another victory over the Buckeyes in the championship game and everything kept snowballing.

When Meyer took over Ohio State in 2012, the Big Ten was at an all-time low. The traditional pride of the conference, Ohio State, had ended the year with a 6-7 record. The Big Ten champion Wisconsin lost to Oregon in the Rose Bowl and the conference ended with an overall 4-6 record in bowl games.

“I was very shocked in 2012, the national perception of the Big Ten,” Meyer said of his first year in charge.

Good shot to go 5-5 in big OOC games. Are these all of the games against P5/ independents?

Wisconsin vs Alabama
TCU at Minnesota
Ohio State at Virginia Tech
BYU at Nebraska
BYU at Michigan
Michigan at Utah
Maryland
at West Virginia
Stanford at Northwestern
Nebraska at Miami Fla
Oregon at Michigan St

Not that I want to see, just what I expect to see, most confident games at the top. MSU Oregon and Miami Nebraska are the two I've got no clue about, but I can't pick sparty to not sparty themselves in an early season game. For some reason, WVU is pretty good at home, so not much of an idea there. I think BYU should be two easier wins. I feel bad for Minny, they get an angry TCU coming into town. TTUN Utah should be interesting. with hairball trying to get some momentum. My big upset is Stanford dropping to Northwestern. Opening night. Both teams lost about half of their starters, but Stanford lost almost their entire defense (3rd in total defense last year), and keeps basically their entire inept offense (75th in total offense last year). Combine that with the unpredictability of Northwestern. I did not pick Stanford, just put it toward the bottom because :smash::smash::smash:

Count me in the group that'd rather see bama would everyone hates absolutely destroy scum state. I hope that Connor Cook gets what he deserves which is so be watching from the sidelines in the 3rd quarter because he's already thrown 3 picks.

Fuck the B1G I just want to see state feel the sting of being so close and watch their dreams shatter. If it was anyone but them I'd be pulling for them but not them.
