2015-2016 Ohio State Men's Basketball (Official Thread)

Not worthy of it's own thread, but sounds like the exhibition with Walsh today is pretty close.

The Buckeyes defeated Walsh 92-82 in the team’s only preseason-type game before the regular season begins next Sunday.\

Apparently there were some bright spots....

Sophomore Keita Bates-Diop scored a team-high 26 points on 10-of-13 shooting while Loving finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds. The other returning player, redshirt sophomore Kam Williams had eight points and one assist in 29 minutes.

“I felt really good out there. I felt comfortable,” Bates-Diop said after his performance. “Our offense was just moving the ball well. It felt good out there.”

Sophomore Jae’Sean Tate sat out this game with a sprained ankle. Matta said he rolled it in practice on Friday and likely could have played, but would not have been at 100 percent.

The impressive debut went to point guard JaQuan Lyle who had a solid all-around game with 19 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists.

There really is going to be a post presence. Trevor Thompson had 10 rebounds and went 3 for 6 from the field. Daniel Giddens was two of three from the field. David Bell didn't score from the field, but went 4 for 4 from the free throw line. As a group, the post players produced 15 points and 11 rebounds. Thad has 15 fouls to work with at that position so the Buckeyes should have improved post play this year.

If they can get consistent scoring from Lyle, KBD, Tate and Loving, they could have a tourney team this season. But we've just seen Loving and Kam fade down the stretch against good teams last year, that is something that cannot happen from their more experienced players again without it hurting them in a big way.

Bump for the game being on TV. Just realized it now while switching around during MNF commercials.

Much better than watching and just hoping Melvin Gordon isn't good for 13 points to tie and 14 to beat me.

I always miss these exhibition games for whatever reason, nice to see even a rerun.

The ultimate question that is up for debate is whether this OSU team makes the NCAA tournament. What do you all think? Seth Greenberg at ESPN just did a short clip to say he expects OSU to make it. But of course Joey Brackets has them out in his projections.

It's a close call, I tend to think they have just enough talent and depth to make it, but I don't think it's a given obviously. They just need to find a way to get a few wins against tourney teams at some point in the season (and avoid losing more than a couple games against teams they are expected to beat). One good thing for OSU is they have a couple months against mostly cupcakes to improve individually and as a team, and will still have several opportunities for those quality wins after that. Having a relatively soft nonconference schedule, aside from a few tests, is more suitable for this team than it was in past years when they had veteran teams which should have been able to take advantage of their experience advantage in early season competition.
