2014 Preseason and Regular Season Polls

Well we've won 6 and you'd think we lost 6. Apparently quality of wins matters selectively.

If you don't have a problem with the way the current circle jerk system helps the SEC and hurts everybody else, then you're either lying or don't care about competitive fairness. If a non-SEC team did what Miss St did (play nobody OOC, beat teams that were overrated, beat one legit team) they'd be ranked anywhere from 5-10. 1 through four would be SEC teams and FSU. There's something wrong with that. There was something wrong when aTm skyrocketed after beating USCe. There was something wrong when Miss St and Ole Miss used them to skyrocket. And now they're all up there, ready to beat each other and not get punished for it.

to be fair, Arizona beat Oregon and went from unranked to #10.

um, pretty sure LSU is still in the west.
our best OOC win is just a B1G school*, so it doesn't change the argument much.

*sorry, had to take the open shot while it was there
Ha, I forgot to count to 7. I started at the top of the top-25 and named off the ones I remembered until I got to 6 schools. I guess LSU was the easiest to forget. Totally forgot they had 7 in each division now. Yes, LSU actually has the best win of all of them, even though they got dominated for 3 quarters and then the Wisconsin coaches went with the 'fuck it' strategy. That was the first game in the few hundred I have watched over the last decade where it looked like the coach genuinely threw the game, taking out your best player in the 2nd half when he claimed (after the game) to have been begging the coaches to put him in. But yes, and LSU win and definitely the best win of the SEC west.

My comment was merely, when a top-5 team looses to a conference team that has won less than 10 conference games in the last ten years, that top-5 team becomes a sub-20 team. It is just more likely that the top-5 team was overrated, than the historically terrible team was suddenly amazing. Whereas when Ole Miss beats Bama, that just means they are both top-5 teams.

I don't know much about the rest of the selection committee, but the above four gentlemen are absurdly credible. Add this to the fact that Archie Manning has already excused himself from the proceedings because of Ole Miss' high ranking and I think absolutely everything has been above board thus far.

We have been told by multiple sources it was due to health. Care to link?

Archie should know that Ole Miss won't stay that high.
they haven't won an SEC title since before the Beatles came to America. They couldn't find their way to Atlanta if you bought them a road map.

Hell, Jordan freaking Jefferson has as many SEC titles as the entire Manning clan (alleged SEC royalty) combined.

p.s. fuck ole miss. and fuck the mannings while we're at it.

I'm not having it both ways so you can stop putting words in my mouth. I can claim ignorance about it because I don't give a [Mark May]. It's not relevant to what I have seen when I've watch games. I have asked what victories have constituted quality wins and no one has responded except Josh. I have asked people to make their own judgments instead of simply falling back on the judgments of others. Josh has made some comments on the quality of victories and I have as well. If you are incapable of making those evaluations then we have nothing further to discuss.

So you don't know what ESPN is saying, but whatever they're saying can't be wrong.
OK.

Stop putting words in my mouth. I don't know or care what they are saying for the most part and I made comments about the quality of some SEC wins. Those are my comments, not ESPN. Thankfully Josh was willing to provide an actual response to the commentary rather than bringing up the bias strawman which is irrelevant to attempting to comment on one's personal belief regarding quality wins.

Really?
This is the post I responded to...

I suppose that's one problem. The other problem is that the conference we are in hasn't done a great deal to force a change in that reporting and the SEC continued with a strong OOC performance this year. All I was really trying to say at the beginning of this discussion is that the SEC has had as many or more quality wins as any other conference.

So I ask again...
How much in the off season and first weeks did you hear ESPN point out that the SEC lost both their BCS games last year?

You comment on the state of reporting, and then shirk the question with claims of ignorance about what's being reported.

So you cannot effectively evaluate quality of wins. Got it. Meanwhile reporting on our performance includes more than ESPN-there are dozens if other media outlets, but you knew that. I'm done with Ya, because you cannot provide an answer.
