2014 Preseason and Regular Season Polls

Yep, I can't see it gang. Even winning out we will be on the outside looking in. They have legitimately placed enough SEC teams in the top 10 to push a minimum of 2 teams into the playoff. Until they start playing games at a campus stadium for the playoffs, it's still totally rigged away from teams not located in the south.

Yep. That's why I'll still measure the success of a season on winning the B1G and winning the bowl game. That's also how I've been able to put the VT loss behind me more quickly than some others. It had no bearing on the team's goals that it actually had control over.

How many people realize that Ohio State hasn't won the B1G outright since 2009? That's too long. That's what I care about - not this sham committee playoff.

Somehow they made the national championship system less transparent and more corrupt than ever and got people to hope and believe it was an unprecedented step toward legitimacy.

I don't think Ole Miss should have been in the top 6 but we'll find out real quick against Auburn this weekend...I would've put Oregon in the #4 spot instead. As for Ohio State at #16...I cannot really fight it too much. The loss to VT is incredibly damning with the way they have played since beating us (at home and at night). Yes, we seem to be a very different team but you just can't dismiss it either.
There's a point where they need to quit holding that loss against us to that degree...JFC, it was the second game of the season.

If OSU's O-Line doesn't improve by leaps and bounds and Barrett's MCL sprain seriously impacts his mobility, MSU will tee off on him in two weeks so OSU's position will be irrelevant.

The rest of this dog and pony show is just another sitcom to sell ad space on TV.

I'm all for it, really. I'd rather win out and play in the Citrus Bowl vs the SEC's first out.

A win in that game would say one of two things, the SEC didn't deserve that extra spot and the game proved it or Ohio State deserved the respect of being in it.

Either way it would be a HUGELY successful season considering and would set the stage for next year being a pre-season top team.

I would agree more with that if we didn't almost lose to PSU...granted it was a tough atmosphere and we pulled out a tough win, it didn't reinforce that the VT game was an anomaly given that PSU is at about half scholarships still and did not have an impressive resume coming in. In fact, it just made us look suspect in primetime games whether it is on the road or at home, while also leaving serious doubts about our offense when facing a good defense. If we would have even held onto a 14-21 point win in Happy Valley, then I think we are likely ranked around #12 or #13.

Now if we beat MSU and crap on everyone else, then I am completely in agreement. In any even, I am just saying that as of Week 10 I can't disagree too much with #16 but like most teams on the list, we will have our shot to prove we are much higher than that (or fall even further pending the results).

Nah I can see Arizona ahead of Ohio State. They beat Oregon at Oregon and lost to a pretty decent USC squad at home by two. Georgia being that high puzzles me though. They lost to an awful SC squad and their only good win is against an average Clemson team. I'd be pissed if I was Baylor, TCU, and Arizona.

The whole playoff idea was championed by fans of the SEC who didn't like the idea that only one SEC team (most years) got a shot at the title. After that, the rest fell into place. And, worse yet, the whole process is headed up by the boob who thought hiring Bret Beilema to lead his school's football program was a good idea.

If the other conferences had the gall to stand up to the SEC, both with respect to true neutral site games and with respect to removing subjectivity from the selection process, then we might have true legitimacy. Until then, we're in a worse spot than we were with the BCS, IMO.

The fact that we set up a panel for this bull shit and the fact that there is so much debate should tell everyone this system blows. Because there is no way to HONESTLY pick the four playoff teams fairly. Once you start comparing losses then just pack your shit up SEC and go home.

Better get use to it guys because unless we win our in the upcoming years we will ALWAYS be left out (particularly if that loss is to our annual OOC big game).

Need to let some things play out before drawing too many conclusions. There will be no more than 9 - 0 or 1 loss teams by the end of the year. And, one of those, Marshall, has no shot due to its schedule.

At most, you could have:

SEC - 2 (1 loss Georgia beats undefeated MSU in conf championship)
ACC - 2 (1 loss Duke beats undefeated FSU in conf champ)
B1G - 1 (OSU or MSU or Nebby win out)
Big 12 - 1 (TCU or Baylor or KSU win out)
Pac 12 - 1 (Oregon, Az, Az St or Utah win out)
ND wins out
Marshall

Does anyone really think all of that will happen? Of course not. I'd rather take the odds of getting to #4 in the new system than trying to climb to #2 in the old one though.

Yet Alabama gets a free fucking pass for winning by one point against a mediocre Arkansas team...

I still think there's at least an 80% chance OSU is in if we win out. Could be a fluky year with a lot of 12-1 teams, but it doesn't seem to turn out that way. Most likely the only thing the VT game will do is make us miss out on a big bowl if we lose to MSU.
