2014 Preseason and Regular Season Polls

So.........Ole Miss looks awful in losing to an average LSU team, and barely falls in either poll. SEC Bias doesnt exist though........

I think the real indicator is how Auburn proceeded to jump MSU.
If anything, Auburn should've been jumped this week after winning a close shoot-out with an unranked SCe.
Meanwhile MSU controlled their game start to finish as you'd expect.

The only reason that jump happened is b/c Ole Miss lost and so the "unbiased" voters just replaced their spot with Auburn w/o any analysis or reason beyond "next SEC team on the list".

I wish I could act optimistic about the poll that matters, but it will be much of the same agenda driven [Mark May] we've seen.

I don't think so....for one, there are too many ADs and ex-ADs who are on the committee. For another, unlike the coaches who let their water boys vote or the Mediots, there's a better than average chance these committee members will actually take their jobs seriously and actually stick to their announced goals about how they'll rank the teams.

Let's just hope this "selection committee" actually watches the college football games, and not just the three highlight clip and final score from ESPN.....

Data
Selection Committee members will have a wealth of information including review of video, statistics and their own expertise to guide them in their deliberations. They will emphasize obvious factors like win-loss records, strength of schedule, conference championships won, head-to-head results and results against common opponents. The playoff group has retained SportSource Analytics to provide the data platform for the committee’s use. While the details of the platform have not been finalized, it is anticipated that it will include countless pieces of statistical information for every Football Bowl Subdivision team. It will also include general information such as each team’s opponents’ record and opponents’ opponents’ records. The platform will allow the committee members to compare and contrast every team on every level possible.

It should be noted that the committee will not use a single data point such as the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) that is used for NCAA championships.

I recall some jackass on CBS stating that TCU and Kansas State don't have a shot because they haven't been in a big conference long enough and/or they don't have the history like a Texas or Oklahoma.

I guess they ignored the fact that Kstate was in the Big 8 with Oklahoma (and Nebraska)......and then the Big 12 with both when it was created from the start.

speaking of K-State, Bill Snyder may be the best college coach alive.
that guy has consistently gotten more with less than any other coach in my lifetime.
he cobbles teams together with popsicle sticks and scotch tape, and takes them to conference championship games and BCS berths!

imagine how dominant he would be if he'd coached at a place with some kind of tradition and recruiting draw!

he WINS! at KANSAS FREAKING STATE!

dude takes a couple years off, and they instantly revert to the 3-9, 2-10 backwater program that they were, and should be, but he comes back, and sonofagun if he doesn't have them firmly in the national picture again. i don't know how he does it, but that man is a freaking wizard.

Snyder really is a great coach though, no question about it. His teams are hard nosed, physical, and they don't make a lot of mistakes. Their execution and lack of penalties reminds me of a Navy team with much better talent (From a size/strength perspective, no slight to our guys in uniform). Hard not to like Snyder as a coach, probably my favorite Big 12 coach after Charlie Strong. Strong is in a rebuilding phase in Texas right now though, he's going to need another year or two to get them rolling.
