I don't see that happening. Swofford got a LOT of blowback from the ND deal, and the mixed membership was a major part of the big east's death. Any further moves to dilute the ACC w/ partial memberships would probably send schools looking elsewhere and would definately be the last action swofford took as comish.you forget we're talking about Football.. the bulk of the ACC's deal is based on Basketball... I could see the ACC & BIG 12 getting folded together in football ... That could be the major shift is aligning conferences by sport instead of the entire AD....
and the keep the conference afloat money to avoid the league crumbling (and teams running off to the B1G and elsewhere).I understand their TV deal is the bulk... they are getting $240 Million mainly for rights to there basketball product not their football product... there football product would be below the BIG 12s on its own.
No, playoff is better than no playoff...I just don't think 4 teams based on a small group with many biases is much of a way to decide things. Too easy to work the system to get the 4 teams you want in, without what happened on the field mattering. Heck, some Espin talking heads sound like both Notre Dame and FSU won. Sports don't work that way. Sports should not be a popularity contest in as far as deciding championships are concerned.
As I said years ago, the way to minimize this outside influence is to have all conferences get thier champions in, and then fill the rest of the spots (I'd assume this would be a 16 team playoff) with at-large teams. Those teams will obviously have bias, but at least 10 of the entered would be completely bias free, just based on results.
This may also encourage stronger OOC games, because losing them won't affect your conference standing, but will prepare you for conference play. And the at-large teams would need these strong games to stand out. But who freaking know. CFB scheduling is a joke. Needs a complete overhaul.
The one positive thing about the 4, is it is better than 2. 2 was still a popularity contest, now with 4 we at least have the champion decided on the field from those 4. It's just figuring out who those 4 are is impossible to do.
Merge the "power 5" into a "power 4". Conference winners in a 4 team playoff. None of this [Mark May] about 8 teams... You win your conference you get a chance at the title...don't win your conference enjoy the bowl games
I don't think it's the NCAA that screws up the regular season.
As it should, but what purpose is there to the conference championship tourney? They negate, or have the potential to negate, the regual season and can put an undeserving team into the 68.The NCAA isn't responsible for determining that the NCAA basketball tournament field shall be composed of 68 teams?
Cincinnati is available.Exactly why I want Texas and OU.
B12 is already the new BE - they're everyone's mark and the weakest link.
Unless they make some drastic changes in how they're organized (and that'll never happen), SEC / B1G / PAC will eventually start another round of conference realignment and strip them clean. It's a miracle it didn't happen already after losing 4 quality members while PAC looked to snag even more, and having to add WVU (lol?) and TCU (yet another Texas school) just to get back to 10.

I think that if the Big 12 expanded back to 12, Cincinnati would be almost guaranteed as a travel partner for WVU.Are you or
Cannot tell if serious.
