2014 FIFA World Cup - Brazil

We couldn't possess the ball at all for most of the game, something the US has struggled with for years. This was an issue we had all WC. Maybe this further proves that leaving out Donovan was a mistake like many agreed.

Yeah, we all know that's Landons best attribute....ball possession. You truly are a football/soccer expert. :roll1:

Someone please tell me what changed from the first 80 min to the last 40 min personnel wise that was night an day? This should be great, time to read some exaggerating and nonsense.

Face it, people from the Belgium game perspective are applauding them simply for working their butts off at the end and not quitting, which is why people seem to forget the first 3/4ths of the game.

I won't pretend to know much about soccer: I follow the World cup pretty closely, catch an occasional friendly otherwise, and that's about it. But I do think that the U.S. team is less skill deficient and more athletically deficient than is generally stated. The biggest weakness of this team clearly seemed to be handling ball pressure and winning one on one battles for the ball, and the next biggest deficiency seemed to be applying ball pressure. To me those weaknesses seem to be more a function of a lack of size, strength, and speed and less a function of skill deficiencies: Although I won't claim that skills are at the level of the very top tier of teams, I do think that they're a lot closer than they were just a few years ago.

I was pretty much referring to offense in general. Sure would have done a better job than Michael Bradley did.

So this is how you're going to battle the casual soccer fans hyperbole. By engaging in it yourself.
Landon is not a holding midfielder, nor can he last a full game anymore. At best he could have been used as a sub, but his impact is minimal nowadays.

Happy 4th of July.

I keep wondering how many matches on ESPN/ESPN2/ABC ended up being called off of monitors at the International Broadcast Center in Brazil by the various commentators. Reason being, when the commentators have been at the stadium, ESPN has always gone with a two-man shot from the stadium during the pregame.

Doesn't matter really. Gus Johnson and Eric Wynalda could call the game from inside the 18 and it wouldn't make a difference.

The later match will definitely be just a bit different of a watch....should be an exciting, faster paced match. Can't wait!

And that is how I've seen myself change as a soccer fan over the last 10 years...I genuinely want to watch other countries play even while the US is out. Red Bulls v Houston Dynamo tonight at 8:30 on NBC Sports, but not quite big enough of a fan to watch that one!
