I've said it before, I'll say it again - I love Tim May. He's probably the best pure writer of all the Buckeyes beat writers (and I like Doug Lesmerises as well).

With that said, actually watching or listening to an interview he gives is painful. Not good entertainment.

Am I the only one that thinks Rod Smith is star waiting to blossom? Admittedly, he had issues in the past fumbling and off-field issues. However, this is one of the all-time leading rushers in Indiana. The guy is a freak of an athlete. He's 6'3, 4.5 speed, strong, and basketball agility. Please refer to TD run in the Wisconsin game in 2012, that run was amazing.

In man to man scenarios in the pass game, he can out run LBs and Safetys as well as out jump them. Please refer to IL game in 2012 for TD catch to reflect hands.

I know Meyer is anxious to unleash his perimeter offense with prescribed fast guys like Elliot and Samuels (demps,harvin,etc...at FLA) as well the fact that Smith is not one his guys. Smith is a baller, give him the 10 times each of the first three games and he will impress.

Remember that Florida's first championship came with D. Wynn who was downhill traditional runner. I think that Meyer gets so infatuated with P. Harvin types that he forgets the stability of tough, balanced, and downhill style runners. Please refer to the 4th and 1 QB Sweep in the MSU game vs. giving the ball to all-world power running backs like Carlos Hyde (a back that only lost yardage a handful of times), before calling me a Heretic.

Rod Smith = All conference RB waiting to happen.....

I don't think you're the only one who WISHES Rod Smith were a star waiting to happen. However, Rod's position on the RB depth chart leaves a marginal amount to be desired for those thinking he will capitalize on limited opportunities. Carlos Hyde was an exceptional power runner and between Zeke Elliot, Warren Ball, and potentially Dunn, there will be a fair bit of competition for the standard "power back"touches. And I think Elliot and Ball will get most of those unless something changes. Though Rod Smith was a star in Indiana HS, that was 4 years ago and he hasn't overwhelmingly impressed despite the plethora of chances he's had. I think Rod Smith has a lot of potential to change that, but Zeke, Ball, and Dunn are also capable of being impressive downhill runners.
