2014 Bowl Games Open Thread

Im rooting for TCU.

Buckeyes are in the playoff and if when we win tomorrow, the selection of the Buckeyes will have been justified IMO. The Froggies crying in the off season is a result of their conferences "one true champion." The SEC tee shirt fanboys I am surrounded by.

Butt hurt much?

I never said it would go away. I said I wanted there to be some pissed off rednecks the next few days.

Nope. Just pointing how easy it is to pull that card.
Your entire post highlighted how cfb post-season has incrementally changed over the years. Then you finished with a declaration that it'll never change so we should 'get used to it'. 8D
Does not compute.
You wrote several paragraphs proving yourself wrong.

How about we start with " swing at wind mills" and work our way back?

Your tone, if not your exact phrasing, is to accept the status quo and that there is no point in complaining about it. More to the point, why, if the system is a sick joke - your words again - are you concerned that others share your belief and want to say something about it and back it up with data?

Oh great, now I get to be psycho-analyzed? It won't change until the NCAA takes control of the D-1A postseason instead of this quasi-but-not-really NCAA championship. Nothing but the NCAA stepping in and taking control is going to change it. ESPN has too much of a stanglehold on the TV portion of it. The bowl groups are an alliance in all but name. They together control what you think of as a playoff.

It's not worth the energy and is likely a losing battle was 4 of the other 5 conferences that matter really don't give a shit. The Big Ten isn't going to take their ball and go home because if they do they will be ignored and marginalized, so you're stuck.

Keep dreaming. Nothing's going to change because, as @Jake so adroitly pointed out, the entire "playoff" is a scam to keep the status quo. Feel free to continue to waste bits and posts, just don't be surprised when I again remind you that nothing is going to change anytime soon.

You need to work on your reading comprehension skills, sport. The one thing I pointed out repeatedly was that the games are about tourism first and foremost. That is the part I said isn't going to change so get used to it. Perhaps if you weren't getting your panties in a bunch (yet again) you would've understood that point.

Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to watch the game. I didn't come here to have a pissing match with you all afternoon.

Beg to differ. I remember that being NC IN 1955 was a very big deal in Columbus and Ohio. I remember that beating USC and OJ was a huge deal nationally as the winning team was sure to be named NC. I remember all the talk of winning the NC without playing a bowl game in 68 - 69. How about PSU going apeshit when Nixon voted Texas #1?

NC has been a part of college ball throughout my years as a college football fan from 1953 to now.

Disagree all you like, but disagree with what I actually said. Of course there was an NC every year. But to suggest the entire season and post season were based on it - as it is now - is simply not accurate. When you got one at the end of the year it was cool, but it was nothing at all like it is today.

So it's about tourism but ticket sales are down, crowds are terrible, and all the money comes from tv ratings.
Sorry, things change - cfb has changed, as you so painstakingly pointed out. I suggest you get used to change.
People aren't going to shut up just because you prefer the status quo.

ah, accept the status quo and anyone who agrees that it's wrong is right until they post something on it, then they're not only wrong, but they're infringing on something you and Jake settled long ago. Oh and be sure to put a laughing emo in there to be sure everyone sees how clever you are.

"How about this statement for folks who said they shouldn't be in the college football playoff."

I love it. This announcer seems a tad miffed about how the last week of the season played out.
