It's been interesting to follow along with the mock selection process currently taking place in Indianapolis. They've seeded all 68 seeds, and the current Big Ten teams in are:

1) Wisconsin
4) Maryland
6) Ohio St.
7) Indiana
8) Iowa
10) Illinois
11) Michigan St.

Purdue is left on the outside looking in.

I do not know why they do these mock seedings when there are still so many meaningful games to play.. It is almost like preseason predictions. Saying that, I do not understand all the love for Maryland. I will admit that they have won some gamesbut most of them were at home. I guess the same can be said for Indiana because if they are not playing in Bloomington they are not a very good team. Of course these things can change as the season progresses and that is why I think it is just too early for people to be doing mock seedings and brackets.

I do know that Ohio Stated had a very bad loss at Purdue but that was our first game without Loving and we also just did not play very well. I have no excuse for us losing at home to Iowa except for the fact that is one team in the Big Ten besides the Badgers who we do not match up with very well. I probably should keep my pie hole shut until after we play MSU up there this Saturday.

Yeah, Maryland does not seem to play nearly as well as their ranking would suggest, but then again seeding goes back to quality wins and Maryland's stack up pretty well with most teams out there. Iowa State, Oklahoma State, IU, MSU (twice). Not a bad group of wins to have at this time. The good part for Maryland is when you get blown out, it only counts as one loss.

In THAT situation...I'm fouling up 3.

The possession started out with 10 seconds, Iowa scrambled around for 6 seconds and there was a perfect moment to foul after a dribble handoff with around 4 seconds. Would have almost assuredly locked the game- allowing 2 free throws and not a chance to tie it.

I guess the only concern is no timeouts to discuss the next move after the foul (since coaches love to talk to their team every 5 seconds for instructions in a close game).

While there has been limited data, I don't think it is in favor of fouling up 3 overall, the odds of winning are essentially the same. The risk is the insta-loss by the other team making one FT, missing the second and getting the rebound and hitting a 3. So at least you give yourself OT by not fouling. NW forced Iowa into a very difficult 3-point shot, I don't have a problem with doing that. It looks like NW will take it in OT.
