2014-2015 B1G Men's Basketball

Funny how the B1G is getting maligned in basketball now due to a handful of nonconference upsets, when literally every power conference has some upsets each year. The media sees something shiny like UM losing to NJIT and then Nebraska to Incarnate Word and then start digging deeper, but in reality the deeper you dig you see upsets in other leagues as well. The B1G isn't as strong as it has been lately but they still have some good teams in the league, and it's not just Wisconsin contrary to the narrative.

The narrative about the B1G is in spite of the fact that many teams have had notable success in the tournament lately - in fact, they have been great at getting teams to the Sweet 16 lately compared to their historical average, and many B1G teams have gotten past the S16 in the past few years as well - and you can't credit conference expansion for that, either. My prediction is the Big Ten will get 3 teams to the Sweet 16 once again this season, even though they have been criticized by the media for poor play and lack of quality depth as a conference. UW is a strong contender, while MSU and OSU both have seemed to turn a corner within the past week and are on track to be that good. Of course Maryland may have a shot at it as well.
