2013 Week 7 CFB Open Thread

He didn't look much like a technician on Thursday night. Heck, Braxton would like like a technician against every team they played this year, and we all know that doesn't describe him. He has some above average linemen that give him A TON of time against mediocre defensive lines. A little pressure and some halfway decent cornerbacks, and he turned into mediocre. Made some really good throws, but also made quite a few awful mistakes. Plus they do not require him to run a really complicated offense. Teams like Oregon and Clemson run really complex offenses that the quarterbacks are required to navigate. A much more difficult task, and they both do it better. Against any of the top 20 teams in the country, they would have lost last night and he would have thrown 2-3 picks.
He looked awfully good against a very good UF defense in the Sugar Bowl. I've seen enough of him in games to see that his arm is legitimate. And we all know players have bad days. Of course, he does play against a creampuff schedule, but I can see enough in his game to recognize that he's a legitimate talent. He has made some incredible throws. Now, I'm not saying he's a future All-Pro or anything, but I'm not going to dismiss him because of a shitty schedule or one so-so game.

The talent dropoff at Oklahoma the past few years is glaringly evident in the first 12 minutes of this game. Their recruiting has been a shell of what it was 5 years ago. Don't know if that's other teams passing them by, or Stoops getting lazy, but OU isn't the program they were 5 years ago.

I give a congrats to Charlie Strong for how well the guys were ready to play in that bowl game. At the same time, Muschamp is far from a good coach, and his players were definitely not ready to play in that game. I was watching it closely, and the gators gave it away, similar to how we saw Rutgers blow opportunity after opportunity late in the game to tie it up. The gators are loaded with top athletes with a deserving high self-image. The need a coach that can properly manage those personalities and keep their head on straight. Teams like that often lose in a trap game. Much like Ohio State in 2006. Walked in there as a heavy favorite top dog expecting an easier win and gave the game away to a better coached up and prepared team. Expect the gators to lose a lot of games like that as long as Muschamp is there. Expect Louisville to win the 1 big game as long as Charlie Strong is there. Put them in any other conference and they'll win that one game, but then lose the next 3 big games in the season. Much like West Virginia when they moved to the Big 12. Dominated their final season in the Big East, dominated the bowl game. First season they were killing it and getting ranked highly, then at the halfway point they got tired, couldn't keep it up. Geno Smith is very similar to Teddy Bridgwater. He was a heisman favorite, ran a little, but was a 'technician'. For the first half of the season he was just flat killing it, but he couldn't keep it up. The pressure week after week it just too much. Now look at Geno in the NFL, very hot and cold. So I just can't take Teddy Football or Louisville seriously.

Mizzou ties it up between the hedges.

Mack will do just enough to keep his job. Mack is Cooper. Cooper is Mack. Mack is Cooper.

Should've been another Texas INT. Bell not having a fine passing day.

Mizzou takes the lead after getting great field position to start the drive. I'd really like to watch this even with Georgia's depleted offense, but Texas-OU is always a great watch.
